Personally, I think that the search function is pretty crap, but in reply to the OP, this thread should answer your question. :)

Long time TES modder. When the tools are released, hopefully, a TW2 modder.

It's been gone over ad nauseum. It is not in doubt, at all. Most recently here:

Damn, the arrogance is astounding. Again, no, it's not confirmed. All we have are strong hints and valid clues which we can draw conclusions from. Note however, we can only infer that Alvin is Jacques. We cannot deduce the link between the two.

I personally do find it very likely and the fact that it's not written in stone is what makes the theory so much more compelling.

You guys ever hear of subtlety? CDPR left very strong indications. Did they actually come out and say that Alvin is the Grand Master? No, because they handled it in a much better more effective way. Subtle.

I agree. There was enough evidence to convince me that Alvin was the Grand Master, and if hypothetically a future game said that Alvin was still alive it would feel very cheap and inconsistent with the first game. I'm glad that they didn't come right out and say that it was Alvin though. By heavily implying it they gave it time for the realization to sink in and I think that had a stronger impact on me than it would have if the Grand Master had said he was Alvin.

Yeah this has been discussed plenty, but years ago. I personally agree with the common opinion on what happened to Alvin. Poor Alvin. :(

this has been discussed way back, and that word is the answer. The very fact that is strong hinted but not confirmed which makes me love it and many others feel the same way. If CDP went ahead and said yes or no at the end of the game it might have been boring now because we have been through 2 games in 5 years but who knows it might have been exciting too. And NO it wouldn't be a cheap tactic if by chance in TW3 Alvin is not Jacques and turns out to be someone else, it would be more interesting. But most likely his chapter is closed in TW1 and so has this discussion so lets keep it that way

It must primarily be understood as a story. And its clear that Alvin being the grand master makes sense from a story perspective, given all the signs pointing towards it being so. Alvin and Jacques de Aldersberg looks like one could expect a single person would do at different age. Jacques de Aldersberg defends his actions by referring to whst Geralt told him about non-humans before he teleported away and so on and so forth.

Personally I hate it when a newer addition to a series ret-cons a previous story or re-explains things in another light. That usually comes across to me as a lack of creativity and possibly ruins the series for me (like Diablo 3 did :X). I don't think CDPR will fall into that same trap of trying to re-explain a story that they've already told. I think they're going to keep moving forward, which I like.

I agree with the other posters about
since a large part of the game involves asking the question, "Who and what defines a monster?" Personally, I believe CDPR left enough hints in the game about Alvin's ultimate fate.

The fact that he repeats everything you told Alvin is the biggest giveaway that he's the Grand Master. They don't need to flat out say it. The fact that nothing is ever said about Alvin between Triss and Geralt in TW2 is also a big enough clue.

There is a sort of reference to good ol' Grand Master Jacques in TW2:

Geralt: "Cedric drinks to get rid of the visions. And that's something I understand perfectly well."

Grand Master is also mentioned a few times in the game or at least he is when you import your TW1 game (can't quite remember with a stock TW2 game).
