I know there's like 1000s of topics like these, but not one did solve my problem.

Here's the thing:
I'm in common stereo mode with my headset or my speakers (whatever), I just reinstalled the game twice from steam and I can't get any sound out from scenes or character based sounds.

I tried to run it on low and ultra specs (because I can, fuck yeah), and everything is going smoothly, except for voices which are non-existent.

let's just say I don't have any clue whatsoever, and I'd be willing to try every thing you guys suggest.

Are all other sounds ok ? Try going in game and select options making sure that dialog , music , and sounds are turned up . If they are then try running a game cache integrity check . After that might try looking at updating drivers for your sound card .

other sounds: check (I can even hear the poor man cough in the tutorial, but when I start to speak to him there's no voice nor facial animation)

in game volume: check, all to the max

game cache: check, a file was corrupted, Steam got it again but the problem didn't go away.

Sound driver: check, after a proper update (tho I doubt I had an old version)and a reboot, nothing's changed.


NOTE: Will try to put the game in French, to force a steam update of audio files.
I'll post here again when i'm finished.

Okay, the game is working just fine with French audio.
I guess the files on the steam server are corrupted or something because I can't get the english language to work.

I guess I'll just have to be okay with the french (

OK if you want take a peek inside the Witcher 2\CookedPC folder and see if these files are present

Yup, they are, with the correct filesize too.
So either there's a link to these files that doesnt occur ingame,
or one of these is just corrupted and can't play (since we know that it works at least in another language)

Strange . I suspect it`s a Steam or more likely a registry key that didn`t get inserted .

Maybe so.
I'll make a last attempt on my side by DLing the above mentioned files from my friend's game folder to see if it's really not the files.

I am having the same issue, difference being I have the disks, not through Steam. I have tried the recommendations and looked and found the 2 files and they are the correct size. How should I proceed from here? Is there a way to fix the registry or force a reinstall of the English files to fix the registry?

Actually what i would try first is backing up the two files and then delete them then follow the link and scroll to the bottom and download the files pertaining to the English language pack and after downloading just click on the installer to install the language pack . Then retry the game making sure to click the configurator and select English as the VO language .

I found the English voice over pack on the site and downloaded it while I was waiting for a response. I just ran it and I now have English voices! So problem fixed.

Are you patched to the EE ? If so then follow the link to get the language pack or packs of your choice .

There are 5 part of the "Enhanced Edition English Language Pack", which i need to download? the five of them? And how i can install them? (sorry for my ignorance)

Yes you need all 5 parts . When finished downloading then click the installer . When you click the installer it should automatically pick up your witcher 2 installation .

When you have all 5 parts downloaded then click the one with the wolf head . That`s the TW2EE_EN_Voiceover.exe

I put all the fils in the same folder, i select the language, i press Next and an error comes out.
"You must enter a full path with drive letter; for example:

C:\APP

or a UNC path in the form:

\\server\share"
