Stuck on Vizima Confidential
30.08.2012 @ 18:11 #1
I'm playing from steam on a mac and am having immense difficulty installing. So much heartburn have I suffered that I decided to post of it here and ask kindly if anyone has gotten it working on mac (lion).
Currently I've downloaded Java 1.6 runtime environment however it won't allow me to install it because it errors upon installation attempt that I must have Mac OSX 1.6
Thanks in advance!!

Questions about how to install the Saved Game Editor really go in the Saved Game Editor thread. Tommy, our tech expert, can often help people to get it installed, though even he might not be able to help you with this one. The Editor was made several years before The Witcher was released for the Mac, at a time when the game was only available on Windows. So the Editor expects a Windows version of Java, and fixing that one might be a challenge. But you could do something much simpler.
Zip your saved game and upload it to a file-sharing site (MediaFire is a good one, since it's free AND doesn't require downloaders to register). I'll download your saved game, install the fix, and upload it for you. It should only take me a couple of minutes, and if this is the only thing you need the Saved Game Editor for, then you can just skip the installation headaches.
(I'm also the author of the fix, so I know all about it.
I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.
I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

Sometimes Witcher saved games become glitched for no apparent reason, but I've never seen a glitch take this form before, so I think it's more likely that something more is wrong. The game is acting as if the file that gives you the Character entries for your journal is missing. Check your Witcher installation and make sure that you have all the files you're supposed to have. I think you probably need to uninstall and reinstall your Witcher game.
Steam sometimes behaves strangely with The Witcher, and it looks as if Steam didn't give you all of the files your Witcher game was supposed to have. Reinstall the game, load a saved game, and check the Character tab in your journal and see if you have all of the entries you're supposed to have. I'm hoping that you were given the entries that you're supposed to have, and they're just not showing up because the Character file is missing. If so, once your Witcher installation is correct, then your game should work again. If you're unlucky, you'll either need to start the game again from the beginning or download a saved game from about the point where you are.
Sorry I don't have better news for you.
Edited to Add: See the next post for why most of what I said here is wrong. I'm VERY sorry!
There's a saved game from near the end of Chapter 2 here, if you can't get your own save to work.

I forgot that I was editing the English for Fantasta's excellent adventure "Entrapped" and had some files from that adventure in my Witcher installation. When I take those out, there's nothing wrong with your Character journal entries.
I'm very sorry to have scared you with no need!
There IS still a problem, though. The "Vizima Confidential" fix is ONLY for the case where you've discovered a certain important item in the crypt in Vizima's Cemetery ... and looking at your Character journal entries tells me that you have NOT discovered that item. So I'm not sure that this fix will work for whatever's wrong with your game.
I've uploaded the saved game with the fix applied, anyway, just in case it might work, but since you seem to have a different problem than the one the fix is intended for, it is NOT guaranteed. For what it's worth, you can find it at http://www.mediafire...y5mk4cbwp4ppmjn
What are the symptoms of your problem?

My journal indicates I should speak with raymond, i was told too by a child. I get that, on the way I found a sidequest to go and collect a family heirloom in a the crypt in the sewers. I finished that quest and then found the gravedigger guy who gave me a request, it required me to complete either vincent or thaler, I completed thaler and got xp and he cleared the debts allowing me to go into the cemetery where i found raymonds body. This was awesome cause now i could clear ramsmeat kalkstein and vincent no questions asked. However the journal entry still indicated i need to speak with raymond, now I had already told vincent (and potentially ramsmeat thought I can't recall) that raymond was dead and javed was impersonating him.the problem arises from not being able to talk to raymond at ll when i initiate dialog with him. I only have options to sleep and exit dialog.if you have the witcher installed feel free to load the game up and see.
when i try to download your mediafire link it opens a google dox. :\
again thanks for all your help

These are the normal symptoms of the Vizima Confidential problem, but when I opened the saved game you uploaded, it didn't have the journal entry indicating that you had found Raymond's body in the crypt.
Do you have a saved game from that time? The fix assumes that you HAVE found Raymond's body (and hence have cleared the other suspects).

That's bizarre. I just downloaded it, and it's a zip file containing a Witcher saved game, just as it should be.

Thanks for not chewing me out for my earlier error. That's the first time I've ever done THAT.

Hmm. interesting, well i can't even get back into the crypt now because i gave the key back to the gravedigger. If it won't work out I may just download the gave save you suggested.

Um, you did remember to unzip the folder and take the saved game out of the folder, didn't you?
I don't use unix, so there's nothing unix-related in anything I've uploaded. I'll upload the file again, just to make sure it didn't get mangled during the upload process.
Hang on while I do that; I'll edit this post to add the new URL when I'm done.

The saved game where you've already been in the graveyard is not the saved game you sent me; in the saved game you sent me, you haven't been there yet. Is there a reason why you sent that earlier save? I wasn't asking you to make a NEW saved game, just to send one where you've already been in the cemetery.

Yep, that one's much better. In this saved game, you've discovered the body in the Cemetery and cleared the other suspects.
I've fixed your saved game and uploaded it to http://www.mediafire...okgnviv3dib0q6y
You'll know it's yours, because the file name is SemtesNEWFixedWitcherSavedGame.zip
I downloaded the file I uploaded and checked it, and it loads fine. Remember to unzip the file and to take it out of the folder and put it directly in your saves folder.
I hope we're all done here, and you can go back to having fun now!
Let me know.

I tested it in my game, and the new dialogue lines and quest updates were there, so I'm guessing that you don't have the Override folder installed in the right place ... or maybe forgot to install it at all.
The usual directions for installing mods are for non-Steam Windows games, but there are Steam Mac installation directions around here somewhere.
And you should be sure you took the NON-fixed version of that saved game out of your saves folder.
Edited to Add: There's information for installing mods on the Mac here.

The Bugfix for the Vizima Confidential Problem thread has directions for what to do. You said you'd read about that fix, so I thought you knew all about it.
The Simple Instructions for Advanced Users says:
1. Open your saved game using the Saved Game Editor and replace the broken quest file with the new quest file I've given you.
2. Put the Override folder in your The Witcher Enhanced Edition\Data folder.
I've done #1 for you, but you have to do #2. The files can be found in the thread I've referred you to, and my previous post has a link to instructions for Steam/Mac users.
(Or if you look at the "Detailed instructions for Less Advanced Users," I've done steps 1 - 10 for you, but you still need to do #11.
