Hi at all,
there's a rumor going on that Fallout 4 will take place around Boston, in the remains of the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth was mentioned already in FO3 (the high-tech place where doctor Zimmer and his Androids come from), so the setting sounds very reasonable... and Bethesda is said to have been "researching" Boston and the MIT lately.
While I desperately crave for more Fallout games, I just hope FO 4 will be more like New Vegas (i.e. closer to FO1 and 2) and less like FO 3.
Sadly, the Eastcoast setting prevents the direct continuation of the events of FO 1, 2 and New Vegas, like the conflict between NCR, Legion, Followers of the Apocalypse and BoS.
So what's your opinion? What are your hopes for Fallout 4? Rather linear Story as in FO3, or strongly dependent on the player's choices as in FO:NV? New game enginge, or another gamebryo product? Skills and Traits as in FO 1, 2, (Tactics) and NV, or no Traits but more Perks, as in FO3?
I look forward to the game and to a lenghty discussion :yes

Obsidian should work on it again
I'm that guy who won that t-shirt.

I actually like the idea of setting on the East Cost, as it is not necessarily a bad thing to have change of pace every once in a while. Freeing themselves from the West Coast setting, means they can do some different and interesting things with the story-line and characters, and I am excited to see what they come up with. Plus, the American South West is way over-used in general, for post apocalyptic fiction :).

Obsidian staying away from world creation and doing the writing, and Bethesda doing the world and level design, without disregarding the lore of the 1st.and 2.nd game.
Skills and Traits , and the Commonwelth seems like a interesting way of implementing Fo3 that was somewhat lagging behind in the lore department.

Obsidian should do it, and they should abandon the crappy Bethesda engine, only thing that held back New Vegas. Bethesda have proved repeatedly that they can only make buggy hiking simulatoirs, whether with pushover dragons or the raping of classic franchises. And they can't make anything for PC.
I have waited many years for the Incline to begin. False prophets I have followed and obscure lore perused, but always there has been nought but the bitter taste of disappointment at the end of my travails. Still I do not give up, I do not falter with weariness. Even if it should never come to pass I will still believe and search, for the Incline is beautiful and it SHOULD exist.

Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I personally feel that Morrowind and Skyrim are some of the finest RPG's every made, and they have been very awesome in fostering a good modding community for their PC games. I definitely think it would be cool to bring on someone like Chris Avellone for some of the writing, but everyone seems to want him for their RPG writing these days. I'm think that Bethesda will make a great game, as I am one of those people who actually enjoyed Fallout 3, and I say this as a longtime Fallout fan, although it I missed the multiple endings and impactfull decisions of Fallout 1 and 2.

I also like Fallout 3, but it was the first Fallout game I ever played. Then when New Vegas was announced, I decided to try the classical isometric Fallouts and at first I hardly recognised the atmosphere, as there is a lot more civilization in the old games (and in New Vegas), whereas in Bethesda's capital wasteland, rebuilding of civilization has hardly begun in 200 years since the war.
So now after Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas, I see Fallout 3 with different eyes and while I still enjoy it (replaying it right now), the aforementioned parts of the series seem overall better to me.
Interacting with the world and changing the course of things, but without being some kind of superhero or chosen one (of course you are called the chosen one in FO 2, but you get my meaning I hope ^^), this is what Fallout is about, and not much of this freedom is found in Bethesda's FO3.
They even ruined the enclave in my eyes - they were evil in Fallout 2, but their (maniacal) motivation was understandable and they had Frank Horrigan, a walking travesty of their aims. In FO3, their motives are just a poor copy of FO2 with an added crazy computer president and they are reduced to stereotypical "evil" as a counterpart to the stereotypical "good" BoS (another bad move of writing).

I have to agree with you there. When I was playing Fallout 3, I could not help but think that the plot was almost a complete rehash of Fallout 2. That being said, I still had a lot of fun playing it. I think the Brotherhood of Steel is awesome as a concept, and one of the best parts of Fallout lore, but I hope that neither they, nor the Enclave play a significant role in the story of Fallout 4, because they are a little too played out at this point.

The Android-enslaving people from the commonwealth institute are already geared up to take on the role of the stereotypical evil party :D

I'm excited about the setting if true. I'm just not enamored by the desert or the west coast for some reason. While I agree about Bethesda's woefully outdated engine, I loved both Fallout 3 and Oblivion. And from what I hear, Obsidian's games are even buggier.

The setting for Fallout 4 is San Fransisco.

It's too bad that it's not Detroit, since they wouldn't even need to change anything :) No-one would know the difference!

So you didn't play New Vegas? :o
There are of course bugs in new vegas, but I remember only one broken (side) quest. Skyrim is a lot more bug-infested.

FO:NV did have a fair few bugs most of which were fixed by Obsid- such as the freakish "Doc Mitchell" exorcist intro and the handstanding scorpions - but people keep forgetting that _Bethesda_ was responsible for QA and Testing on FO:NV.

Ah come on, that was so cool, I'm almost positive it was a feature and not a bug :D

New vegas was better fallout game than f3, that said it's still nowhere near glory of fallout2, partially because they are more of a shooters than rpgs. Honestly? It was better to end this franchise when it was good, i mean it lost all of it's charm. Still anticipating wasteland2 tho. It will be spiritual successor to true fallout games, just listen to this sample music.
