I was unable to kill the kayran so I looked up a walkthrough online and it said I was supposed to get the metal frame at Loreto's ... long past that part, any other solution?

In answer to your question, I killed the Kayran without the metal frame from Loredo, so yes, it can be done; check out the thread I've linked, above, for tips.

Thanks, I thought I was on the Witcher 2 board. I checked out the link, it seems all the advice is for the pc. This time I decided to try the xbox.

The guidance in that thread on how to kill the kayran is the same for PC and Xbox. The only difference is that on Xbox you can't use the Ultimate Solution of asking someone else to play it through for you.

As Cory said, you don't need the trap, and from what I've seen, most people probably don't use it.
