Windows 8

This brings me to question- when win 8 is launched, will CDP jump to support TW games on that platform? well it TW (both) doesn't work then hell no way I'm upgrading to it. Also did the guys at CDP got a chance to use it for themselves? I'd like to know their thoughts.
(after searching there was no thread on this so made it, if there exists then kindly merge it to existing ones)

Ofcourse this is obligatory download because metro ui is terrible.
http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/
APPS are pretty much useless and im sure 90% of people not gonna use it (other than checking weather). If you mod it a bit it's just another windows with nice optimization.
Also im using steam on it and it doesn't have any problems, i have no idea why gabe hate it so much other than you see xbox live logo in metro if you didn't mode it out.
What's important is that windows 8 perform in games better than windows 7:

Extra performance is great but will I notice the difference if I play everything on max already? Besides upgrading windows is too costly so I think its better to wait till windows 7 gets outdated and get windows 9

Rob Pardo, the executive vice president of game design at the Diablo 3 studio, quoted Newell's comments on his personal twitter account before adding that Windows 8 is "not awesome for Blizzard either".
Discussion on the value of Windows 8 has hitherto been relatively quiet among games designers. Yet Newell, the co-founder of Valve Software, sparked debate on the subject by describing Windows 8 as "a catastrophe".
It appears that his claims were centred on criticisms that that Microsoft will want to have more control over various applications and purchases made through its next operating system. The full details have not yet been announced by Microsoft.
"There's a strong temptation to close the platform," Newell said, "because they look at what they can accomplish when they limit the competitors' access to the platform, and they say, 'That's really exciting.'"
This appears to reference to the Windows Store in the Microsoft operating system, which could restrict companies' options to sell their software directly. Microsoft will take a 30 per cent royalty cut of every sale made through this store.

TLDR : Some peoples are voicing concerns that MS is jealouse of apple store and will try to do own "MS store" in future OS's.Apple is doing that on own made devices but if MS is planning that on devices they dont even make its kinda utterly BS.

In any language, no matter how you translate it, it is always about the money
This xbox live integration thing brings back memories of the IE integration lawsuit in the early 90s. And yes, it does seem with each subsequent release, that MS wants to make Windows look and feel like MacOS or even gnome/KDE like.

Now, with the Metro UI and some other decisions MS makes based on the inverse of feedback...

let them make their store, no one will buy their "apps", normal programs working fine on windows 8 preview and if they want to close platform then people will just move to older versions of windows or just create modified versions of gaming linuxes.

Valve and Blizz are scared that people won't bother installing extra software or visit a website, follow steps and so on, when they can just open the future integrated Windows 8 store.
Marketing aside, Win8 is greater than Win7. Performance-wise is way better, the UI is also improved for good, the Metro UI start screen is actually 10 times faster to use than the Win7 start menu. It's way easier to find what you're looking for instead of clicking through windows. For example if you want to find a specific file in Win7, you need to open an explorer window or windows search and then wait for a long search. That's not a concern in Win8, just hit the windows key and start typing. Can't be easier!
And last, about Linux as an alternative to Win8. No, Valve/Blizz don't promote it or help the development of Linux. If they did so, they'd lose a lot of money. Remember how Blizz banned everyone who was playing D3 on Linux? Yeah, cool supporting there.

First, the Windows Store will NOT be obligatory for software makers to sell their software for W8. I can't really imagine how any developer could actually fear Windows Store. It's a huge merchandising, advertising and distribution channel, apart from places like GOG, Steam, Origin etc. If you are a developer, with Windows 8 you have access to a few hundred million devices that will be shipped yearly with Windows Store. And to Steam. And GOG. And Origin. Etc. Where's the lockdown?
Second, Windows Store will be mostly about Metro style applications, that are both mouse+keyboard and touch enabled. So traditional, "heavy" business applications and AAA games will not likely be distributed through Windows Store.
Third, Windows Store actually gives better revenue sharing option than Apple, as after the application surpasses the 25.000 USD threshold, it changes from 70 dev - 30 MS (the same way that Apple store does it) to 80 dev - 20 MS.
Forth, why is Valve complaining? How much of the developer's revenue they are taking when selling games through STEAM? They are doing the same thing and now accusing MS of "locking" the platform just to defend themselves?

Oh really? Did you hear about Microsoft Surface? It's a device and it's made by MS.

Performance wise i agree, but metro ui is complete garbage and thanks god that we have working classic shell that brings back useful features even from windows xp.

I haven't tried W8 yet, but looking at your screen shots I would say that W8 looks way more intuitive. I don't use 'All programs menu' in start menu at all because it is completely mess.

I agree. I use desktop icons the most, which is exactly what Metro emulates with the app list.

››› You're actually wrong. How is the first picture better than a well organized start menu that has everything you need in the center of your screen instead of going through many columns just to get to a single application. And to make your example more accurate instead of heavily favoring you, let's post the appropriate Metro Star Screen instead of the Apps metro screen

Well, yeah, because all you have to do in W8 is start typing to find the app you need, you don't even have to click or scroll.
Plus, what synd posted.
