Let's face it: a lot of people in this forum use Steam and we all love the seasonal sales. 40%, 60%, even 75% off. It's nuts!

Essentially, it's shopping time for the rest of the season/year. This is one particular aspect where PC gaming shines above all other platforms: cheap games!

So for the current Summer sale, what games are you getting? And which do you recommend?

I am interested in Fallout: New Vegas, and both Y's (Oath in Felghanna, Origin). Any comments on these last two?

I warmed up by getting Syberia I & II, and Post Mortem - three games I love so, so much, and I'm very happy to have them on Steam I really miss the old Microïds games, they had a certain air about them. If you like point&click logical adventures, I definitely recommend those three + Still Life, which is a spin-off/sequel of Post Mortem. If anyone asks, Still Life 2 NEVER HAPPENED.

ATM I'm interested in Fallout 3/NV - waiting for a bigger discount tbh - and perhaps S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Indie Pack II looks pretty cool as well!

I'm also thinking about Mirror's Edge, but I get motion-sick from some first-person games. Not sure if it's worth it, it looks like a pretty speedy game. But it looks so nice... ;_;

What is this Y's I keep hearing about?

Mirror's Edge isn't a bad game, although it is pretty short. I never got motion-sick from it, but it might depend from person to person. I think it worth that 5 €/$ it costs now, as it is a unique experience.

There are actually very few games that I still want to buy... but they're SO CHEAP! In fact, even though I would like to buy everything from GOG, there are still a couple of older games that I want to play (Psychonauts, Beyond Good&Evil) that will cost so little on Steam during these sales that it'll be tempting to just pick them up there. Other than that, I've pretty much bought too many games during previous sales already, most of which I haven't played that much afterwards... I haven't even finished both TW games (via GOG) yet!

Nice! I played the first Syberia right when it came out years ago. I loved the atmosphere. Will have to play the second sometime soon.

I will definitely avoid Fallout 3 and simply play New Vegas, which apparently is as close to the originals as the Bethesda engine allowed. What I hear is that Obsidian did their best to bring the series closer to Black Isle's defunct Van Buren project.

Currently NV is on Amazon for about $30, and requires Steam activation, which makes the Steam version more appealing.

Y's are a series of semi-old japanese action "RPG"s, that have been remade to allow for better visuals and HD resolutions in modern PC's. They are fast-paced, challenging and fun, from what I hear, and have great retro graphics!

Yesterday I got Legend of Grimrock and the Shogun 2 DLC Rise of the Samurai. Not a bad start.

As mentioned in the other thread I'm especially waiting for a good deal on Batman: Arkham City. I also was hoping for Max Payne 3 but I already expected it to be 50% off - which is great, but not good enough considering that it'll be months before I get to play it (so I'll probably get a better price for it some time in the future). Other than that I don't have an agenda and will just look for what's irresistible.

There's a small dot in the center of the screen to help people who get motion sickness. It doesn't help absolutely everyone, but it's much better than nothing. You're right that it's a speedy game, but I didn't find it unmanageable, and I hate things like racing games. Fair warning: most players "die" a lot when they're just starting out (myself included), but the game has a reasonably good checkpoint system. My deaths were less about speed and more about misjudging distances or mistiming mouse/keyboard commands with my clumsy fingers. There should still be a fair number of let's plays and such on Youtube. The game is mission-based, so watching a bit of it shouldn't spoil all of it, but I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to that kind of thing.

Plus, if you played TW1 in English, Faith will sound very familiar. Well, and she's just cool.

Its an... interesting game to say the least. Different from most. I personally did not like it. The later levels are really ridiculous.

GET THEMMMM I promise you won't regret it! Those two are among the very few games I actually completed 100%, doing all optional "collector" quests. Both are super unique gaming gems

Hmm, one thing that seems to be a constant is that people who liked Fallout 3 hated NV, and vice versa. So now I'm thinking getting both may be a good idea. Leaning towards NV, although I have no idea why :S

I heard it's a great concept with terrible execution. I think you can play a free demo through Chrome webstore.

Thank you! I think I'll look at a few gameplay videos in fullscreen. Some games make me sick pretty bad, others don't... I mean, I logged over 100h in DX1 and DX:HR just this year, and both are in first person. But with Mirror, we'll see.

Ok on the Ys series I have 2 words. GET THEM! Seriously they are awesome and I can't recommend them enough while they are on sale. Also if you have any spare money check out Divinity 2 the Dragon Knight Saga for another awesome RPG. It's a bit more light hearted than the usual gritty fare and while I can't really describe it well I can say it's also worth your money.

Grab them BOTH!! They are ultra fun, ultra difficult dungeon hack'n'slashes with stats. Thought TW2 was punishing and merciless? Muhahahaha!!

The story is kinda mawkish nonsense but it shouldn't detract you too much. One of the reasons I keep mocking combat in TW2 is that is resembles this game so much... but is dumbed down.

I was really interested in the concept of From Dust, but I tried the demo (available in Google shop which is kind of a revised version for PC, but the undermentioned things are still valid - mostly) only a few months ago, and from what I saw throughout the first few maps I can tell that it did not convince me. The controls feel utterly clunky (side-scrolling), no graphical options whatsoever, capped at 30 fps. And somehow the technical side (a.k.a. physics) of the game didn't impressed me as much as others.
Btw, I am also considering Mirror's Edge which might be a good purchase...and maybe Beyond Good & Evil, plus some great deals to come that cannot be refused.

Picked up Trine 2 and Spellforce 2: Faith in Destiny at a flash sale this morning. Trine was a nice change of pace and I enjoyed the other Spellforce games.

I can't recommend Crusader Kings 2 enough, one you get over the learning curve its a real time sink. A lot of replay value, especially with the new Islam DLC. The Indie bundle II has Botanicula and EYE-both are worth playing. EYE was a hot mess on release but has had some decent patches which cleaned it up nicely. Its still a weird game though and the lack of explanations can be frustrating. But it has "psychological and trauma management"...so there.

The Walking Dead by Telltale Games is great, defiantly grab it. Toy Soldiers is a nice tower defense game with an unique design, only $2.50 at the moment.

Got my eye on Jagged Alliance-Back in Action and Yesterday. The original JA was a classic and I'm curious about the new one but not enough to pay full price. Yesterday looks intriguing, Focus also did Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper and The Next Big Thing-both of which were fun to play.
