Only for the players of China as me and those one who can't suffer the terrible TW2 official Traditional Chinese translation.
Hi guys, I love The witcher series games and bought TW1. After TW2 released I purchased a TW2 Taiwan version, but I found many indescribable translation and obvious translation bugs. Many other Chinese players also got so many translation bugs that the gameplay was ruined. The most common is the same person, item or creature was translated into many different names. For example:
"Draug" and "draugir" are mixed up, the if I want to make the "Draugir Armor", OK,everything screwed.
"Sile de Tancarville" was translated in three diffenent names that the players can't tell which is the person.
"Scoia'tael" sometime in its meaning "squirrel", but sometime in its pronounce.
"Dun Banner" , sometime in meaning and sometime pronounce, so what does Geralt need to find?
Kcorb Ransel's nickname "Fliparse", sometime in meaning and sometime pronounce, so who does Geralt match with?
Somewhere the Nilfgaard Emperor's title is translated as "Highness", and Prince Stennis is "Sire", what a arrogate!
Beside, a lot of the journal translation bugs like this:
109764 Tell Roche about the assault on the castle.
Meaning: Tell the story about assault Roche castle in detail.
So many that too long to post, so I upload my fixed translation, a more detailed changelog, and the official translation bugs on witcher nexus:
Just only a small part. Even some wild change like these:
The swallow potion use Golden Oriole icon and the formula:
Resized to 54% (was 1276 x 1050) - Click image to enlarge
For unknow reason the translate team change the entry of 102753.
And also Dragon's dream:
Resized to 54% (was 1280 x 1102) - Click image to enlarge
The reason is the translate team change the entry of 99016
One can say TW1's official Traditional Chinese translation is not wonderful, but at least not bad and the players can enjoy it. I don't know what are the translate team thinking when they got the job of TW2?
As a Chinese I use Simplified Chinese, but I don't hate Traditional Chinese, I can also understand it. I purchased TW1 Taiwan version and enjoy it. But when I got my TW2 Taiwan version, I was angry with the fake-like translation and I sold it away in a low price, then I bought a copy of European version. When the game updated to EE, I was glad but then disappointed, finding no improve in translation. The terrible translation made many players including me suffer.
Thanks to Gibbed's RED Tools, I extracted the zh0.xml ans en0.xml files. With Ultraedit help I can check the text line by line, compared between English and Chinese, and fixed every translation bug I found. Total 69000 lines took all of my spare time since the EE updated, but I finished. All because I love the game. In my mind, comparing with EA and someother, CDPR is the ONLY honest and kind game devoloper in the world.
I sincerely hope the official Traditional Chinese translate team would take their responsibility and improve their work, they can make money from this after all. Or CDPR would find a better, or conscientious translate team for your amazing games. Or the worst, don't let sucks ruin your hardworking harvest, making the game and its developer as laughingstock.
