If you're talking about the Modron maze, I cleared the easy layout but just ran past the constructs in the hard layout. I was slightly underleveled I think and the battle with the Wizard Construct was a serious pain in the ass. I also had to do some melee fighting with my TNO-mage so Dak'kon's Strength of One spell came in handy for the entire party.

However, I do think Pangaea meant the crypt in the buried village. It's the only basement/crypt location I can think of. I had a really hard time in there with the cranium rats. Gotta catch them alone or in very small groups, and clear them out quickly before they build their groups.

I still don't know much about Numenera, but if they use some kind of talent-based character progression instead of class based, we could have some seriously fun combat regardless of how intelligent and/or wise we are. Really looking forward to that.

The Hard Modron Maze was really err hard too, and I died a fair few times there as well, at least on that pesky Wizard (which I had to kill twice for some odd reason, I forget why). But what I meant was some type of crypt with lots of nasty fellas. There were piles of coffins and shelves and such if I recall correctly. We tended to get overwhelmed by enemies, and would quickly die. To protect my party I went down there alone, thinking my deaths wouldn't really matter anyway. As you can imagine I died a LOT. But also managed to clear out the place. Damn my completionist tendencies :D

Weeping Stone Catacombs, the crypt near the buried village:

I'll throw in spoilers for good measure. This is the ENDING thread anyway :)

Among other things in this crypt you find your arm, and it leads you to Many-as-One, the self-aware shared mind, leader of the cranium rats, and enemy of the Silent King of the Dead Nations, also reachable from here and where you learn the talent Stories-bones-tell. Furthermore, beyond the Dead Nations you reach the Drowned Nations and the decanter of endless water, which can be activated by learning the code word from one of the weeping stone faces in the catacombs.

Pretty important area I'd say.

Honestly I loved the Curst prison, smashing through the guards with justifier or ascension in hand, I felt uber badass. Especially when I duelled the swords fat little guardian, Cassius was it, and beat him like a red headed step child. Very satisfying. ›››

It came out of nowhere, though. Before that you could just run past most enemies and suddenly you were pretty much forced to take out every single guard. There was at least fifty of those bastards.

It didn't help that I couldn't rest and regain my spells. I know that the hermit allowed you to rest but then you returned to find that most of the guards had just respawned. I never went to Modron's Maze; reading the posts on it makes me glad I didn't.

You can think outside of the box. For example, keep a handful of invisibility scrolls ready and then simply walk past the guards. Or find a structural bottleneck (like a doorway) and take them on one by one. I used and abused Annah's backstabbing here, with all the walls and shadows and whatnot.

And you should play the Modron Maze. Apart from the difficult constructs, there is a very special companion to be found there. A very exotic representative of the unusual D&D plane the Maze IS in, rarely seen anywhere else as far as I know. Also the final confrontation with the evil wizard construct gives you a very powerful, high-level mage spell among other things.

It actually wasn't. Apparently there is a Torment Wiki out there, and after looking at the location names I found the right spot: UnderSigil.

Some seriously tough dudes down there, and that is where I died an awful lot of times. Seem to recall there was some conversation or otherwise way for the game to tell us "Don't go there. Just DON'T!". But of course that didn't help. I HAD to go there! :D

Later on, in that dream sequence, I had to go there again and kill some bastards, so that was an indication I shouldn't have gone there the first time around I guess.

It's such a wonderful game though. Now I want to replay it. Finally starting to feel better after a gruesome flu, and want to get through BG2 first. But maybe I'll have another date with PST after that :)

Could also be Undersigil, with the larval worms and them weird blade-armed monsters?

This is the weakness of the mages though, my fighter's like the Duracell bunny, just keeps going. Don't need no down time, regenerates his health fairly quick thanks to high constitution and deals massive giant strength damage. Mine was lawful as well so I got +3 strength from Vhailor teaching me of the axe, making for 22 strength, and a whole world of pain for my enemies.

Edit: Damn ninjitsu.
I have waited many years for the Incline to begin. False prophets I have followed and obscure lore perused, but always there has been nought but the bitter taste of disappointment at the end of my travails. Still I do not give up, I do not falter with weariness. Even if it should never come to pass I will still believe and search, for the Incline is beautiful and it SHOULD exist.

That's pretty much what I did but it was still a low in such a great game. It would have probably been more enjoyable if I was prepared but I just didn't such heavy fighting coming.

I'm just about to replay the game. I'll most likely do the maze and everything else I missed.

Ah, yeah. Undersigil. I went there after I returned from Ravel's Maze / Curst / etc. when I was a decent mage level, so I didn't remember it being insanely difficult.

Such a good game...

I doubt TNO would ever match Vhailor but if I could be half as good wow. I'll defiantly play as a fighter next time, especially after sadly tossing all thoe cool unique weapons to instead stay stuck with my shank. That dude doesn't give a damn. The mage was so frustrating for me in the beginning. That butter knife does jack-nothing, and its very much like the table top as you hold on to those precious magic missiles. Those nightmare things left me very VERY frustrated. I took the words "a friend dies everything you do" literally....at least I hope that shouldn't have been taken literally.

You know, that's a theory a coworker and I have. Medieval setting + loot + levels = RPG!

I don't know about that. Aren't some people trying to claim Call of Duty is a roleplaying game? Or at least has roleplaying elements? Just about anything out there is an "RPG" by those definitions.

Suppose this dilution started way before, but ME2 and ME3 (ME too I suppose) didn't exactly help. Widely advertised as an RPG, yet has next to not roleplaying in it.

Maybe we need to dig up the "What is an RPG?" thread now :D

My fighter Nameless could put down Vhailor in moments, the Mercykiller hits hard but is suprisingly fragile in comparison to a well specced out Nameless.

Sounds like on of those Gerlat's that take the Operator out in a hit. Fancy fancy. All Vhailor did was so much as sneeze and I died, and he could take quite a few of my most powerful spells.

And I thought ME was as much a role-playing game as the Witcher. I cannot speak for the other two, though I heard ME3 took a lot of the role laying elements away, particularly the superficial yet useful ones like a quest log.

Unless I mix some characters up, I don't think I fought Vhailor. Got some peaceful solution to the standoff, and he left. That is incidentally one of the things the game does fantastically well. There are often ways to prevent combat via conversational options. I hear this is the case in Fallout and Deus Ex too, but I haven't played those yet.

I only offed him once, when I asked too many questions at the Pillar of Skulls, got to admit I really wanted to take his axe and armour but no dice. I prefer to take the terrifying bastard back to Sigil, and imagine the nightmares the thugs of the Hive will be having at his re-appearance.

He slaughtered me at the Skull Tower, but I regretted taking him with me until the very, VERY end, where he played is very important role. He killed everybody and interrupted me constantly with his ARGGGHHH!!!!!!! JUSTICE!!!! Guess it doesn't matter of the Deva would have been forgiven or not after his face was chopped off.
It was like if Iorveth just went and stabbed Phillipa or something, well maybe not quite. That would have been awesome though.

Has anyone played the original Wastland?
