I'm hoping you both supplement your karate with some grappling/ground fighting! If not then all your years of training are useless as soon as someone takes you to the ground :)

Don't worry about that: we do a lot of grappling and more or less every parry can be closed breaking opponent's arms and throwing him to the ground. I am very satisfied by our actual training, and although I'm surely not the best "grappler", I'm able to perform a lot of those skills, even against an opponent that weights much more than me, without needing the use of so much strenght :)

slimgrin, she's an amazing fighter! When I was training there was one female in my class and it was always weird if I had to spar with her. I didn't mind sparring with her if we were doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (grappling) but if we were doing Muay Thai (striking) I always felt awkward. It goes against my every instinct to strike a woman.

Well, yeah, but tell that to gender equality/inclusion crusaders and they are going to rip you apart. Um, at least they should.

I usually do not worry about offending people who are overly sensitive. I am a fairly straightforward/open person. I speak my mind. Instincts are not something a person chooses. My instincts are to protect women, not harm them. Regardless of whether or not that woman could kick my ass :P

And about them ripping me apart... well, I wouldn't mind if they tried :) I'm always up for a good fight. I never feel more alive than when I'm fighting.

speak for yourself.....
;-)

I wrestled all through school. Have 5 years of submission wrestling. Some boxing/ taekwondo (limited admittedly) Then again I was doing that stuff in the mid to late 90's. I fought in the Hook n Shoot org. I was 2-2 when I decided that kind of life style was not for me. Weight classes were non existent back then or if avaliable were very large gaped. I was always put up against somebody much larger than me. I got a torn rotator cuff (left shoulder) in my last fight. That was 1998. times flies.....so maybe she could take me now.....That said if weight classes were more main stream and non tournament style fights were the norm just maybe I would have stuck with it. On record , Yes before every fight I was scared. Only of losing not the pain. My father made sure I wasn't scared of pain. ;-(

I've been playing Dota 2, great game but I don't think I've ragged at a game like this in years, still it's part of course.

Of particular note however is the Russian community. In Dota there's bad players then there are Russian bad players. Not only are they shit at the game, bad at communication in general as bad players tend to be ( Dota 2 is a team game so you need communication ) but the vast majority of them don't speak or refuse to speak or understand english. In a game where again communication is crucial to have team members who don't speak the same language as the others do is a death sentence and it would be fine if the Russians just stuck on their own specific server but they don't. Instead they play on all the different servers even when they don't know any bit of english ( how is it btw that EVERY other player from countries outside Russia in Europe can speak or at least understand BASIC english?! ). Granted there are a few who are good players or who do speak english, or both, but these are few and far between.

One might think I am exaggerating but there is a very very large community of Dota players who utterly despise Russian Players, in Dota 1 ( which was a mod for Warcraft 3 ) most games banned Russian players completely, back in the day I didn't put much thought into why this was, now I understand perfectly well.

I'm downloading Dota 2 as well, got it from a friend on Steam, now I don't have any experience with Dota, but I did play LoL quite a lot (if that's in the least alike Dota) Anyway, I understand your 'Russian problem', they often team up, speak Russian with each other while the rest of the team is like: Wtf are you doing? *Facepalm*

Which is, to say the least, quite annoying indeed :l

Anyway, want to play sometime? :D

"Annoying" doesn't even belong in the same Universe with regards to the emotions Russian players give you.

And sure, what's your steam ID?

I'm still looking into upgrading my PC, which only has a Geforce 7900 GS card. My go-to shop for computer parts has 16% off ASUS GTX 660 Ti this week. The alternative is a GTX 670 card, or whatever equivalent AMD/ATi have these days, but I think 670 will be a bit too expensive for me.

What do you reckon? Is the more expensive 660 cards worth the extra money, is the 670 worth the (much) extra money? How about ATi? Or is this offer on 660Ti the best I can get now?

Right now the price corresponds to 380 dollars, though I've no idea what this card actually costs in the UK or US. The Asus version of GTX 670 is ~560 dollars, though MSI and Gainward versions are a little cheaper.

I dunno about Asus cards but the 670ti is just slightly less powerful then the 670 so it's good enough.

What CPU, motherboard and power supply do you have? It wouldn't wise to spend that much money on something your PC won't handle properly.

In any case a 660 Ti may cover most gaming needs unless you're demanding, i.e. TW2 1920x1200 with Ubersampling
Facio, Voco, Ferre.

PC does not equal Windows. Personal computers run many different operating systems, like GNU/Linux and, why not, Windows. PC games should be available for all major platforms. Let's not be handcuffed and tied to one vendor. Utilize standard, cross-platform technologies!
