Hello there. Yesterday when I was playing Act IV I stumbled upon the famous Berengar bug at the end of the chapter. I spent hours searching for a solution, but couldn't find one that worked properly. Even though the problem was supposed to be fixed since patch 1.1, I got it even with the game updated with 1.5, so, If anyone is still getting this, I seem to have found a solution.

The bug seem to be linked to the Path of Destiny quest. As you receive the sword from the Lady of the Lake, this quest is supposed to be updated, but I was still getting that 'waiting for reward' phase. As I searched, several people seemed to have this very same problem.

Even though I make various saves, I seem to have forgotten to save since about half of Act III, so playing since that point was gonna be kinda annoying. I've also lost my older save games since my backup HDD fried last year, so I was kinda stuck. I managed to find a save game on the internet from the start of Act IV, and played with it until after killing Dagon. By that time, the quest Path of Destiny was finally updated.

After that, I developed a small fix for those who want to keep their original saves with their own choices. This fix is only PARTIAL, but allows you to proceed with the game.

The first step for the fix is killing Dagon and saving the game at this point. If your quest is still stuck, proceed with the following:

• Make a backup of your original save file
  
• Download The Witcher Save Editor
  
• Open your save file with the editor
  
• Unpack the save data into a new folder
  
• Download the file I included
  
• Extract the content from the file into the same folder and overwrite the 3 files
  
• Repack the save data using the Save Editor
  
• Save the save file

This should allow you to proceed with the Path of Destiny quest as well triggering the Free Elves quest, but with a couple of restrictions.

Berengar will still not show up in the island. You'll need to go to his location at the lakeside and confront him there. There is a small problem here. If you decide to forgive him, the game proceeds normally. If you decide to kill him, you may not be able to do so. The two times I tried, he fell to the ground with about 25% vitality left and nothing happened, probably because he was supposed to trigger some sort of cinematic response and since you are not at the island, this won't happen. If you go to the island, you may get stuck there, not being able to use the boat back. So, don't go there after talking to Berengar.

White Rayla may or may not show up. As I saved at the island, when I first left it, she didn't show up. But as I tested again, I loaded up the game back from the island and she showed up the first time i left the island. So I recommend you go to the island and back a couple of times to see if she will show up or not, if not, reload the game and try again.

Thank god for this topic. Solved my problem. Now I have a new one. How do you edit quests because I have another major quest bug.

Then could you do me a favor and send a save file right after that cut scene where you meet Adda plays? I got the save file you sent but it is still the same issue.

It will be later on tonight before i can do that . In the meantime have you tried the game in windowed mode to see if the black cutscenes still persist .

Yeah I tried windowed mode and the same thing happened. Had to ctrl+alt+del to get out.

Come to think of it . It wouldn`t do much good to do this as there are more cutscenes after the Adda one and one is very important with no way to save after this cutscene/conversation .

Have you tried loading an earlier save to see if the same thing happens .

The save you gave me worked and I was able to advance past the cut scene. Looks like it is a corrupted save. How did you get past the cut scene using my save? Did you have the final conversation immediately before the Adda cut scene with the Grand Master? I noticed events happened pretty differently with your save and mine. Some cut scenes occurred out of order.

I tried reloading all the way from the beginning of the chapter using my saves but it looks like all of my saves are corrupted. They all lead to the same bug seemingly no matter how far back I go.

Anyway what I would like to try is if you can get me a save file right after the Adda cut scene which should be possible after you meditate.

Something seems to be not quite right here . Using your save i played all the way to the castle when i got an unending black screen with not a sign of Adda anywhere . Triss , White Rayla , and Yaevinn but no Adda .

Yeah I beat the game using your save but the main reason I want to use mine is so I can start The Witcher 2 using my save. Mainly so I have it as Triss + Siegfried being picked in the game as well as having my weapons transferred.

I am not sure how else I can fix this and I do not really want to start a new game all the way from Chapter I.

I may be able to help in that regard . With default Triss in W1 won`t make any difference in W2 . So you want Sigfried alive and sided with the "order" and weapons and naturally Raven`s Armor .
