When is this getting fixed? I spent a good chunk of change on this game, and I have yet been able to play it. This is really annoying.

We created a hotfix for those experiencing problems with .NET Framework 4, notably errors like "application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)", 0xc0000005, errors with no error message preventing the game from launching etc.

PLEASE NOTE! Using the hotfix will make it impossible for you to send your arena scores to the leaderboards on our website.
Additionally, this hotfix SHOULD NOT be used with the Steam version of the game. Steam users who experience .NET 4-related errors need not worry however, as we are currently working on a patch which among other things will provide a fix for .NET 4-related issues for the Steam users.

Download the hotfix from THIS PAGE.

Additionally, on that page I gathered all the most important info we have on the problems with .NET Framework 4 and workarounds/fixes for them. I would like to thank *Tommy* the moderator and all the users who helped with the research on this issue :). ›››

When Will Steam Users See a Fix???
Hi, I understand you said you were working on a patch forsteam users but it's been nearly 3 weeks since the fix for non-steam users wasreleased. Meanwhile Steam users are still in the dark as to when they will beable to enjoy this fix?

While we appreciate all you’ve done for the game, those ofus that have the Steam version can’t help but feel that we are being put on theback seat. I shouldn’t have to break other software – Adobe Acrobat ProExtended to play a game, or use extravagant tweak or fixes to play a legitimategame I bought from a legitimate vendor.

I would also argue that if the game is going to have issuesworking on Steam why sell the game on Steam?

And let me be clear here – the issue isn’t a “Steam” issueper se, but rather the way Steam works in auto patching games - Whenever youbuy a game off of Steam it will also include the latest patch – meaning thatwhatever patch is out when you purchase the game, that patch will be includedand installed when you download the game – in short if the latest patch forWitcher 2 is 2.1, then those buying the game off of Steam will automatically bepatched to 2.1; there’s no choice in avoiding the patch.

Why do I mention this? We all know that the 2.1 patch isbroken and causes major problems. Those that have not bought the game throughSteam can avoid the patch as they don’t have to patch the game, however thosethat have bought the game through Steam after the 2.1 patch can not avoid thepatch! As mentioned above.

This puts those of us who bought the game through Steam at adisadvantage, and have left us at the mercy of CD Projekt RED to fix the issue….Something we Steam have been waiting on since the 2.1 patch was released.

Anyway I think it would do wonders for Steam users if CD Redgave use at least an update on the status of the patch as opposed to “we arecurrently working on a patch”.

With all due respect, this isn’t an issue that just poppedup a few weeks ago; it’s an issue that’s been around since the release of the2.1 patch.

Thanks.

Hi. Annoyed customer here. I cannot play this game because of your .net issue. Bought the game through steam. I haven't been able to play since the EE was released. EE was something I was looking forward to. How long has it been since the EE was released again? That's how long I haven't been able to use this product I paid for.

Every time I attempt to launch the game the steam client service thingo pops up, and then .net framework attempts to repair itself. Afterwards nothing happens.

When will a fix be available?

Actually, reading the above post, I seem to recall attempting to launch the game after the 2.1 patch and having the same issue I'm having now. I gave up and played something else... something that actually worked.

Thanks. While I appreciate that there is a GOG backup available... I have already downloaded this product twice through Steam. This was necessary after discovering the update did not work the first time. Steam is the central repository for my games, mostly. I realise nobody intentionally hobbled the version available through Steam, but a fix needed to be released in a timely manner.

When will a fix be available?

I've installed the GOG backup. Nothing happens when I attempt to launch the launcher. Starting the game from bin/witcher2.exe launches the game. In the tutorial I can't control anything. There seems to be a lot of [[ ]] brackets in the panels. Skipping the tutorial and starting a new game results in a CTD when you select the "time to go" (see Faltest) dialog option (tent scene).

I'm impressed!

First to say that at current time link
http://en.thewitcher.com/dotnet/
do not work. Clicking on Download Hotfix gets me "404 - Not Found"...

Anyway...If somebody from awesome developers of this fantastic games can answer me *more percisely*:
Does LAUNCHER.EXE from The Witcher 2 EE 3.1 or 3.2 works without .NET Framework 4??

Because as I see it, statement on above mentioned page "The hotfix makes .NET Framework 4 unnecessary to run the game." is not true.

I'll explain - I CAN start the game normally (patched to 3.2) - with .NET Framework 4. On Windows XP 32bit.
But if I uninstall .NET framework 4 I get "The Witcher 2 Application has encountered a problem...".
Also - I really CAN start the game without dotNET4 BUT only by running witcher2.exe.
Somebody also suggested replacing launcher.exe and NewNetworkClient.dll from 2.0 version, tried that and everything works perfectly without .dotNET (ANY VERSION) at all.

Why am I posting this if my game works - because I really need to uninstall .NET Framework for my own reasons, can't afford to leave it on my computer..but can't use EE launcher.exe because of game crash.

So..am I doing something wrong or that "hotfix makes .NET Framework 4 unnecessary" is infact true only for running witcher2.exe and not regular launcher.exe?

Edit: NOTE: Not important for gameplay, but there is another file that needs .NetFramework 4 - Register.exe

Thanks in advance,
regards

why would you even need to run launcher.exe anyway? ignore it BUT DON'T start replacing/mixing files between versions

witcher2.exe works, just play ;)

the non-NET 3.2 patch will be corrected soon

Yes, I know mixing files between versions is generally not good idea at all...BUT I'm not using old, for example, witcher2.exe in this case - I'm using old launcher.exe and NewNetworkClient.dll and without .dotNET4 these files are non-working anyway so I see no harm if I replace them...

Thanks,

The link works now. To use the dotnet hotfix you need the game fully updated to 3.2. The hotfix has to be manually installed, it is NEVER installed automatically with auto-patcher. If you remove .NET Framework 4 without using the hotfix then neither the launcher nor the witcher2.exe will work. Once you install the dotnet hotfix .NET Framework is not necessary to run the game.

Ok, since game is working for me anyway (I was just trying to clear up things about launcher without .dotNET) it may look that I'm complaining for no reason for game that is really great...but I simply must say, with all respects, that this "update" thing is really not something you have really taken care of at all.

It's like somebody doing installer for no NetFramework do not even have game installed...
To explain...Yes, the http://en.thewitcher.com/dotnet now works but there are multiple incorrect statements:

- no, the game do not require 3.2 fully installed before. Have you even tried starting the no.Net patch like this? I did. It aborts complaining "You have to install 3.1 version first." And yes, after I installed 3.1 only then I could perform dotnet 3.2 hotfix patch. So the correct statement would be "game has to be patched to 3.1 version, not 3.2! (And this is logical since regular 3.2 and dotnet Hotfix 3.2 updates differs only in witcher2.exe, everything else is same in BOTH 3.2 updates)

- also, why this 3.1->3.2 requirement at all? The only file that is not overwritten with 3.2 version is configurator.exe. Why not packing this file into 3.2 patch so that people can patch to 3.2 version directly??

- that "The hotfix makes .NET Framework 4 unnecessary to run the game.." is still only partially true -> yes, witcher2.exe works after dotnet hotfix, but NOT LAUNCHER.exe and REGISTER.exe. And if you leave "lauch The Witcher 2..." checkbox at the end of dotNet hotfix install, you are presented with nice crash without .dotNet4. Why, because "no .Net4 Hotfix" installer runs .Net4 dependant launcher.exe(!) at installation end. Silly.

- not related to dotnet page (plus this is now not important since this version is obsolete), but I downloaded also old 3.1 dotnet hotfix and regular 3.1 patch and I noticed that they BOTH run witcher2.exe fine WITHOUT .dotNET4 (!?) Go figure.

To sum it up...this is really confusing for customers without .NET4.
I don't know if you have any will to change this, but if you do - please make things right by including Launcher that works without .dotNET4 into HotFix (register.exe would also be nice..). I'm hoping for a new non.NET4 launcher.exe...but Launcher.exe,Register.exe and NewNetworkClient.dll from 2.0 version are also good, better then "please create new shortcut for witcher2.exe and do not use launcher.exe without .dotNet4 otherwise you'll get crash.."

Regards

yeah, nice summary but since the Launcher is useless these are just nitpicks, but i agree things could get better, but I doubt they'll do

So has a fix been made for the steam version yet?

Because I haven't even been able to get this game working at all, all that ever happens is that steam will say that I'm in game for about 2 seconds, but nothing happens, no launcher or anything. I have been searching for awhile now to find a fix for this, but nothing. It has become a huge frustration!

I have tried all the suggestions people have made on here: http://forums.steamp...d.php?t=2824288 But yeah, none of it works.

Downloading the gog backup isn't an option for me either as I only have a 30gb limit on my Internet.

Thanks! but it doesn't seam to work. Unless i am doing it wrong. Is there a specific path that i should be putting it into? i tried E:\Games\Steam\ and E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\the witcher 2, both didn't work. i checked the registry editor and there had been no change, what i have in there at the moment is:

(Default) REG_SZ
DirectX REG_DWORD 0x00000001

Also when i manually added dotNetFx40 and vcredist dwords the game didn't start

On a side note i verified the game in Steam and it found a few files missing, and now instead of doing nothing at all when i launch the game it now runs through the first time setup up until installing the .NET Framework. And then after that it does nothing, again.

I also uninstalled and then reinstalled all the .NET framework on my pc

Running both the game and Steam as admin ?
Might have some offending software that is keeping the game from starting
http://en.thewitcher...topped-working/
Also check your firewall for the appropriate permissions and antivirus program to make sure that the launcher and or witcher2exe is being quarantined or trying to be run in a sandbox .
Also check Windows event viewer for witcher 2 application errors .
