Almost everyone here will say no they would not like to see it, because it would ruin the games atmosphere.

Keep the classics as they are.

People don't think to realize the amount of work it would take. I would be like creating a new game. The engines are totally different and it would probably delay Witcher 3 into the 2016 area.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that Witcher 1 is 3 times bigger and they would have to recreate all of those places and characters and yeah it would take them years!

I'm for it because then I could actually play Witcher 1 at a good framerate. I can play Witcher 2 at higher settings at a great framerate but Witcher 1 as soon as I hit Vizima Trade Quarter/Swamps the game starts perform horribly.

Good Points sure. Keep Classics as they are and the amount of Work. But on the other side, the Engine exsists and the Developer Team is experienced with it. So sure would be a lot of work but...and TW1 wouldnt disapear. Would be just another Version.

Anyway, i pretty sure it will never happen anyway...its of course a economic question for CD Projekt etc.

PS: Maybe someday with the Engine as Open Source and as a Fanprojekt ;-)

Classics should remain just the way they are. Tampering with too much of the content kinda ruins the allure of it in the first place. There's a reason why games on gog.com have don't have massive changes. Small tweaks to support higher resolutions and bug fixes are much better alternatives to said additions. The Witcher is beautiful in its own way and unique in that sense.

I am totaly in favor that a remake should be done of TW1 using red engine. lets be honest, its the time of remakes, from games to movies, everything is being made again these days, but i doubt we will see TW1 remake this early, i mean TW3 must be in devolpment, and TW1 remake will put things on slow path, but who knows may be in the future

That^
Besides the game isn’t old enough to need a remake and I think it would be best if they just move on.

If they ever released a full set of modding tools for TW2 (the way id does etc) then the community would probably eventually do it. After Doom 3 came out, some enterprising people recreated the shareware levels of the original Doom - it's not a replacement, but a very good supplement.

Given that TW1 is a big game in itself, I would say just keep them as they are and Dev rather spend time on making TW3. I like the fact that it looks dated because that's how the creative vision of the team was back then given the tools they had. I played TW1 and I was deeply into it, and the visual and engine of the game have great influence in that. The game was dark, gritty and scary at some point. It gives me the experience that the new engine would probably won't be able to replicate. By playing the game in progression from TW1 to TW2 you will also get to experience the improvement and the growth of the franchise itself as well.

TW1 is by no means a bad looking game, the visual fits the lore really well, even better than TW2 I might add. There are also TONS of mod to make it looks better e.g. high res texture pack etc.

just to add my two cents worth: I know the TW1 team poured their hearts and souls into the first game. It was a labor of love with the added bonus of being commercially viable. I would wonder if using the new engine would diminish their efforts. Those who have known me all these years, know there is no replacement in my heart for TW1. As much as I appreciate the new engine and the TW2 game, for me there will never be another TW1. For me, even the EE to TW1 took away some of the heart and flavor, and I can imagine that if there was a concerted effort to remake it for the new engine, more would be lost in the process. TW1 was not a perfect game, but in my mind, the imperfections were part of what made it special and unique. Understand, I really love both games. I know the devs are artists who do the best work they can and I appreciate the company's devotion to their fan-base; they have never yet disappointed me and continually surprise me.
Honestly, TW1 needs to be what it was, TW2 is glorious in it's advancement, and I look forward to the next CDP release, ever hoping it will continue Geralt's story.
mods I use are: Classic Dice set- ( sorry Dev's the new ones were beautiful but i couldn't read them)-Dark Magic Pants of the Elder Blood-Good Morning Geralt Face Lift ( thank you :) ) and Return of the White Wolf on a Win 7-64bit i3 4gb ram sad little ATI HD 3650 512 card and it all runs great at medium.

Yeah Adonai thats a possibility...i see it the way u wrote. Not as a replacement, just as a supplement.

You are right, Ichobi. TW 1 isnt looking bad and the engine fits the Atmosphere but the Red Engine could be a Way to get a new look on it. And im sure the Engine can be made..."darker" and "gritty". Would be a nice Experiment...

Sure Etainne, TW1 should be seen as TW1 but with the RED Engine we would have another Perspective...

Copy+Pasting my (slightly edited) reply from the other thread about this:

Duskey said:

The game is basically too old, both in technology and indeed gameplay. A "quick and dirty" port would also tarnish the great reputation that CPR is building, especially after doing such as wonderful job with the Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360.

Your best bet is to play it on a PC, it doesn't require a whole lot. ›››

That being said, it'd be cool to give it a facelift for its 10 year anniversary in 2017.
You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day - Aw... :(

I hate the whole 'preserve the original vision' type argument. How can a remake or redo take anything away from the original?

The original is always going to be the original. The argument is therefore invalid to me.

Now, arguing the EE edition changed the original is a whole other can of beans. That argument has a lot of merit

You guys are forgetting that TW 1 and 2 are very different games, with different combat and talent systems.

"Remaking" TW1 using Red Engine would simply mean that they would be making TW1 all over again.

Lastly, I do not see anything wrong with the original TW1. It looks plenty good. If you guys can't play an RPG that doesn't boast cutting edge graphics, like Fallout, Baldur's Gate or Betrayal at Krondor, then you are playing RPG's for the wrong reasons.

PC does not equal Windows. Personal computers run many different operating systems, like GNU/Linux and, why not, Windows. PC games should be available for all major platforms. Let's not be handcuffed and tied to one vendor. Utilize standard, cross-platform technologies!

I'd much prefer the other way around. TW1 has much better game-play.
