Nothing, just waiting for the patch or i will try to install Lion next month...
I'm not sure the Mac crash is the priority with the release of TW2 on xbox 360... ›››

Sorry to burst your bubble, but installing Lion won't make a difference. It's a problem with the Wine wrapper, which has to be fixed on CD Projekt's side.

Still, Lion is awesome so why not upgrade :)

Look in the witcher/system folder for an ERR/LOG TXT file and attach to your next post if it exists .

As stated in my previous reply: you are not the only one. The error exists in the Wine wrapper that came with the game.

@Mods: could you please merge all the different threads regarding this topic into 1 thread? Will make the troubleshooting process much easier for us users and, hopefully, CD Projekt.

I also tried disabling autosave, but it didn't prevent the crashing.

Tommy, I'd happily attach an error or log.txt file, but I can't find it. The file structure of the mac version is absolutely byzantine--there's a LOT of subfolders, and I've been through most of them but I don't see an error log anywhere. I did find the system folder, but no error log.

Running it through Wine is the first problem to be overcome, it seems to me. Games traditionally don't do well through emulators.

What seems to fix the problem (for me at least, temporarily) is verifying the integrity of the game cache. After verifying the first time, Steam redownloaded 6 files. After a second verification, Steam downloaded 4 files. The game runs kind of smoothly now, but keeps crashing after a couple of hours. Doing another verify fixed it for another couple of hours.

To verify your game cache, right-click The Witcher in Steam. Select properties => Local Files => Verify integrity of game cache.

Hope this helps some of you guys and gals out until a decent patch comes out!

I've tried verifying the game cache, too, and consistently get six files that need to be re-downloaded. However, it never gets the game to run for more than a couple minutes for me. Sometimes it actually crashes as soon as it loads the savegame. I wish there was some way to tell which six files Steam is re-downloading--that might help narrow down exactly what the problem is...

One of the guys on the Steam forums got a reply from CDP. They are aware of the problems and are working on a fix. Let's hope it will be here soon!

Hmm, I saw that post on the Steam forums, too, but am not convinced that it's the same problem--I thought his/her post mentioned a black screen with music playing, which sounds like a different problem. Either way, I've been unable to submit a ticket, since every time I fill in my information and click submit on the support webpage, I get an "undefined" error pop up.

Still, we can hope!

I met the same problem at chapter 1. I couldn't play it any more. It crashed too often.

Any one have any solutions? Will CD Project release an update to fix this bug?

I just purchased it and could play until Vizima without any problems. But now, the game has become unplayable. Very sad, since I really like what I saw until now. Please deal with this issue concerning the Wine problem.
Updating Steam did not work, setting preferences to low or medium either and also not the verification of cache integrity.

I have:
iMac 10,1 - Intel Core 2 Duo - 3,06 GHz
OSX 10.6.8 Build 10K549

I found this error in the steam log:

Do you need any special data from the logs?
To my fellow Mac users: Try this path /Users/xxxENTERYOURNAMExxx/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/the witcher enhanced edition/The Witcher.app -> right click -> show package maybe there is some error log hidden inside. I am searching.

can any MAC user chime and tell us if these issues are fixed?

Quote

-no life circles under the enemies
-no health/toxicity bars for Geralt
-SHADOWS are shown on MEDIUM
-LIGHTING helps framerate on MEDIUM or LOW
-Antialiasing can't be enabled
-lower framerate in general

as compared to the Windows version running in WINE that is
TW2 manual install guide from the DVDs? See my post here

TW2 Enhanced Edition Patch install errors? See my post

(not for Steam) Enhanced Edition gives you "application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)" error? See here

Some great guy on reddit found a decent way to improve the pleasure of playing TW1 on a Mac without annoying crashes: http://www.reddit.co...ngine/?sort=new

Check this out, it worked well for me.
