Hi. I don't know if this is the right place to post this because the other forums about wither 1 are technical and quest forums. I just need help in the game.

I just got a pc that can play all the new games and i was always fond of this series so i finally started playing witcher 1. I want to finish this by april 17 so i can buy withcer 2 enhanced edition. Currently i have 2 main quests left in act 1 and am looking for general help.

1. Inventory: Am I managing my inventory correctly? I only put in swallow and 2 stacks of food, 2 stacks of endurance regeneration, 1 stack of weak alcohol, 2 stacks of flint. I turn all my potion bases into white gulls, I made 20 by farming herbs in act 1. For my alchemy sack my plan is to each item with its major and minor properties so like for rebis I will have 3 stacks, each stack will have 1 secondary property.

Is this the right way of doing it any advice would be helpful.

2. Armor and Weapons: I only have 1 weapon and armor the basic one I got at the start of the game. I sell all the ones I can't use combat styles with. My question was that will I be using the basic "Witcher Steel Sword" till end game? Or will I be upgrading them? Same with my armor.

3. Meteorite: I don't understand them at all I have 1 blue and 2 red so far. How many are there? What do they do?

4. Books and Scrolls: Can I sell them after I read them?

5. Rings and Jewellery: Can I put stats on them or are they just aesthetic and for quests? And the ones I find in homes and from winning fistfights can I sell those or do they have any use?

6. Dice: Any tips on how to make money instead of losing it.

1. There are a few potions like swallow, thunderbolt, that are essential during the whole game. Others are for specific situations. Playing more into the game when you reach the second act, you won't have trouble finding bases for your potions. You can do as much as farming for engriedients from act 1 as possible. It would help you a lot in the long run. So don't pass up herbs you can collect on the way.

2.The three different combat stances are possible with the witcher's steel or silver sword only. They don't work with axes, maces, daggers, etc. You'll find a good amount of weapons later in the game. For the best 2 swords you'll have to put a lot of work in. Quick tip: do your trophy quests each act. :) The armor variety is very limited in TW /it's not like TW2 :)/, so later you'll manage to either buy an upgraded version of your current armor. THe best armor in the game is obtained from a long quest much, much later.

3.Meteorite runes are used to craft your own swords. They are very useful and rare. So always try to optain meteriote. There are a few very well hidden in various sidequests and dialogue options. Three meteriotes create a sword. The perks and bonuses of the forged sword depend on the meteorite colors you're using.

4. Yes, you can sell the back after reading them. Most of them are very expensive to buy, but also can be obtained from various sidequests and dialogues as bonuses or gifts.

5. They're used as gifts and an easy way to make a few orens.

6. Save before playing a game and reload after failed attempt.

1. I never really worried about Inventory/Ingredient management so I won't weigh in on this one.

2. You'll have a chance to acquire better armor starting in Act II, and then again in Act V. As for weapons there's usually a sword to be found/bought/rewarded with in each chapter that is better than the one acquired in the previous chapter. You can also forge new swords which brings me to...

3. Meteorites are used to forge new Steel Swords. Each meteorite color passes on a certain modifier or modifiers onto the crafted sword. You need at least 3 meteorites to forge a sword, and you can mix and match colors anyway you please. Matching colors will strengthen the modifiers, while mixing them will add modifiers. Runes (Moon, Sun, Earth) are the equivalent of meteorites but are used to make silver swords. Same basic rules apply.

4. Yep.

5. There are no magic rings. Certain signet rings will be useful to you in some quests but that's about it. There are other things you can put in the ring slot that will protect you against some baddies though. Off the top of my head: Red Ribbon to keep away drowners, Garlic to keep away vampires, and a Pouch of Salt to keep away wraiths. These can be found on merchants.

6. You can save scum if you lose :-)

I am still a bit confused about the weapons. So I can only use combat style with the basic sword given at the start of the game even though there are better one's available? And what are the best weapons in the game? Do you craft them or do you get them from a quest?

And meteorites make steel sword, runes make silver sword. How many different types of meteorites and runes are there. I have 2 meteorites blue and red. And what combination makes the best weapon?

And for rings if they are used as gifts only and certain quests that means I can sell the random ones I find right?

1. i'd say you're doing it fine, but i was never really big on this, so take my word as you will.

2. TW1 is very limiting when it comes to loot, and Armor is no exception,In fact, it's the biggest Victim.
As far as i know, you can only get armors by buying, and they are REALLY expensive.
Personally, i went through the hole game with the default armor until i obtained the Raven one(which is free and obtained through a Quest), so i wouldn't worry too much about Armor.
Steel swords also can be obtained by buying, but many are done through Quests or by beating someone up.
As for Silver, there are Only 3 silver swords, one is found in Act 4 by completing "Ripples" and "The Heat of Day" siding with The Lady of the Lake, and the other is obtained by doing all the trophy quests, 2 for each act.
My advice is that if you're still in act 1, get to the trophy quests immediately.

3.Meteorites are really rare.
They create swords and have different effects depending on the colors.
You need to 3 make a sword.
Personally i never worried about them.

4.Yes

5.Jewelry isn't all that helpful, it aids you in some quest if you present the correct Rings to someone(this is put on practice in Act 1), but that's about as much as they do and there aren't that many quests with it.
As the poster above me said, Some items(Called "Talisman") which take Ring slots keep you safe.
Garlic = Vampire Repelent
Rattle = Giant Centipede Repelent
Red Ribbon = Drowner Repelent
Pouch of Salt = Wraith Repelent
theres also a Four-Leaf Clover and a Vodyanoi Amulet, but they are only useful for a particular Quest.

6. .......
i got nothing,lol.

You can find more info on swords, for example http://witcher.wikia..._in_The_Witcher , and other useful like quests and various items in the witcher wiki. Just type the name of an item/quest in the search bar and you will find all the info you need.
There is indeed a lot of junk in the game and the wiki will help you alot with inventory management.

Thanks I will do that. But I am still confused about weapons. Lets say I buy a weapon from a vendor can I use combat styles with it? Or are combat styles only allowed with the default weapon? And what is the best weapon in the game?

For meteorites when I forge a weapon. Will I be able to use combat styles with it? And what is the best combination to use? From the link you sent it says 3 red or 3 yellow.

Combat styles are usable only with swords. Other types of weapons used don't work.

ohhh so all silver and steel swords will have combat styles working with them. Do you know what the best sword is? Is it forged using runes / meteorites or is it one you get from a quest. I found the list of all weapons in the game but it doesn't say which is the best one.

I used Harvall quite long, it has nice stats and I don't have to search for ore because at the beginning Geralt is completely broke to afford ore. But you have the chance to get ore quite early in the game (at the end of Act 1 and again in Act 1). I don't want to spoil everything here.

I can't really decide which silver or steel sword was the best. I used to create quite a collection of blade coatings, so Geralt could customize the damage of his swords to the weaknesses of his foes

btw. You can't apply ore and runes to "unique" swords.

There are also temporary runes which you can apply to all swords but the effects are limited in duration. These runes are more a kind of blade coating. You will recognize these runes by there unusual names.

Precious rings and necklaces are useless for Geralt. But sometimes you can please women with it. Signet rings are very important, though they don't grant Geralt special stats he benefits from these rings in regard of quests, NPCs, access, etc. Usually you get an explanation what's the purpose of the signet ring, sometimes not and you have to find out. These occasions are the nice surprises CDPR spices up the game ;D But you won't get stuck if you don't find out ;)

hmmm i did some research and found best weapons
Mahakaman Rune Sihill = best steel sword (you get it in chapter 3 or 4 or 5)
Moon Blade = best silver sword (from chapter 5)

Steel sword: Early game 3x red meteorite sword is best until you get Harvall in chapter 2. Either one is good. Then in chapter 3 you get Mahakaman Rune Sihill from a side quest which is the best weapon in the game.

Silver sword: Early game only runes you get are 2earth 1sun 1moon and best combo is 2sun 1sun. Then in chapter 4 you get Aerondight and then in chapter 5 best silver sword moonblade

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS I REALLY APPRECIATE IT... OFF TO PLAY THE GAME

one thing i could never figure out are mutagens..

in AoK they work rather easily, and i understand them in that game.

i know its different for the witcher..the only mutagen i ever figured out how to use was frighteners vision.

how do the other ones (on the hero panel-"requires consumption of a mutagen") function exactly?

thank you.
"I warned you not to go out at night, drunk, starting fights with monsters...you frighten me."

please, bring back the vs. flash game!

Check the mutagenic potions of the first Witcher game. There are more linked articles. I hope you get the info that you are looking for.

Some mutagens you can't get and prepare, depends on your decisions.
