We could add that CD Projekt, before starting up their game development studio (CD Projekt RED) and releasing their first game (The Witcher), was the company responsible for localising and publishing classic RPG's in Poland (and also other eastern European countries, if my memory serves). The Baldur's Gate-series, Icewind Dale-series, and the tome that is Planescape: Torment, were all fully translated into Polish and published on the Polish market. This doesn't affect those of us not living in Poland, much, but you can imagine the kind of status the company has at home. I mean, it should be considered a civil service (viable for the Nobel prize or something) to make these games available to the public.

And what fabulous preparation for making the best RPG's ever! Translating all that stuff forced them to become thoroughly familiar with every aspect of classic RPG's, and that familiarity, plus the background they borrowed from Sapkowski, plus their own genius and creativity, enabled them to come up with an RPG that's better than any RPG ever made.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

Thank you for asking. When I saw the thread title, I suddenly realised I had no idea of the answer and really, really wanted to know this too :)

I thought I had seen something somewhere about an earlier game, not RPG, that wasn't very good. Was that CDPR or a sister company? Or am I mis-remembering?

The Witcher was CDPR's first game. CDPR acquired a small studio that was in the middle of a game -- AFTER The Witcher came out -- and it could be that game you were thinking of.

But it was never released.

CDPR or any CDPR's sister company never released any other game than Witcher.
If you see a grammar mistake in my post, then I don't mind if you send me a notice about it via PM. I always want to improve my English grammar.

That's probably it. Thanks for the clarification!

Some of the people left CDPR and made Hard Reset, which got mixed reviews. It's a cyberpunk FPS. I played it for half an hour and it was fun, but I haven't gotten around to playing it for real yet so I don't have an overall opinion of the game (I got it during the Steam Christmas sale and first I need to finish a few other games that I'm already in the middle of :P)

They did a lot for the LEGAL gaming market here in Poland as a distributor, I would say they are the most important contributor and really experienced in providing additional value for the legal copy of the game so people don't pirate, they went through that in the 90s and - thankfully - survived and succeeded.
