Well, okay, I bought a copy of The Witcher Enhanced Edition on eBay. You know, the version in the black slipcase, with UPC code "7 42725 27655 0" on it. The one that says "Enhanced Edition" right on the dvd case and the slip case, right below where it says "The Witcher". So I am guessing that this is the North American Enhanced Edition. Well, just so we are all clear on which specific release and version of the game is under discussion here. Because this game has been released in an astounding number of different editions, with different content, meant for different regions.

Now, I am trying to figure out how to install this edition which I have right here - The Witcher Enhanced Edition North American version, as you will recall - and I am having a very hard time figuring it out, and need some help.

I have read *many* posts, and carefully looked at all relevant threads on the first 12 pages of this sub-forum, and have gotten a lot of advice... some of which is conflicting. And once I ran into conflicting information, I decided that I might as well stop reading any more threads, and post one of my own.

If I understand the situation correctly, the version that will installed directly from the disk onto my hard drive will be v1.4.

How do I proceed after this? I seem to think that maybe this is the correct order, but really I have no idea:

1) Language Pack (English in this case)
2) Patch v1.5
3) Tages Setup file to remove Tages malware
4) Director's Cut Patch - although I have also read on this forum that the v1.5 patch includes the Director's Cut.

Is that the correct order? I can't even *guess* what the right order is.
Do I actually need the English Language Pack? And if I do, then do I need the "The Witcher Enhanced Edition English Language Pack" that is on Gamespot and which is 400mbs, or do I need the one that is on this site here?
Do I actually need the Director's Cut Patch if I have installed the v1.5 Patch?
At what point in the installation process would it be the best to use the Tages Setup file to remove the Tages protection?
And what about the soundfile crash in XP about which I read in Gamespot's review of the Enhanced Edition? Do I need a separate fix for that, or is that included in Patch v1.5, or the Director's Cut, or what? Do I need "The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Hotfix Patch" that I see on Gamespot for that?
And how about "The Witcher Enhanced Edition Blood Patch" that I also see on Gamespot, eh?

Re: Language Pack:
Although I read a thread that said that I need this, I have NO idea why I would need it; it mostly contains the "Making of The Witcher" videos from one of the dvds that comes with my version of The Witcher. (It also has a pdf of the "Game Guide" that seems to be identical with the hard copy Game Guide that came with the game, except that the specific layout of the Epilogue section differs very, very slightly. Language Pack also includes Manual, which also differs very slightly from the one included with the DVD. Also maps of The Northern Kingdoms and Temeria which I seem not to have at all, unless it is installed with the game.) To have to download a 1.2 gbs archive in order to get, at most, 4 files of a total of 12 mbs seems kind of wasteful, really.

(The game I bought contains 4 disks, all in perfect mint condition, by the way, along with the Installation Guide and Game Guide. Is this the complete contents of this edition?)

Some guidance in this would be greatly appreciated!

There are many different versions of the Enhanced Edition but will try to make it as plain as possible . Go ahead and install the game . Once installation is complete go to your install directory and open the witcher/system folder and locate the witcher exe and hover your mouse over it and in the dialog box that appears there should be a version number listed . If it reads 1.5.0.1304 then you have the latest patch and no further patching is necessary .
If it reads 1.4.5.1280 or similar then you have the true Enhanced Edition and will ONLY need the 1.5 patch .

After patching to the 1.5 and if you run Windows 7 then to to the Tages website and click the 5.5 towards the bottom of the page , then select the version that is right for your system and follow the prompt to uninstall the Tages drivers .

The hotfix patch is included in the 1.5 patch so no need to anything with it . The blood patch you can install if you want to although there are mods that do a better job .

The Director`s cut patch is not included in the 1.5 patch so you will need to download and install separately . I generally tend to install this patch as the last thing to do .

It would seem the only thing your missing is the paper map of the northern kingdoms . Every thing else seems to be there though .
