I'm having a bit of trouble in trying to play the witcher again. I think I accidentally deleted the save game files (I installed the game on my e drive because I was running out of space on c but strangely the saves folder seems to be in c/mydocuments anyway).
I managed to find the deleted saves with a data recovery program and restored them, i then tried manually moving them back into the witcher saves folder (I was only able to find where this was by quickly saving a new game so that the folder was recreated.)
Trouble is I still can't access my old game- whenever I click on load saves in the menu, the witcher crashes. Does anyone know how I can play my old saves again? its a fun game but I really don't fancy slogging through the whole game again...
thanks for any help, Bitey

Don't count on data recovery programs to deliver intact files. They usually will not, especially with very large files like TW1 saves.
Better to ask for a good save at some point in the game (for example, beginning of Act II, still in jail) with the decisions you want to go ahead from (for example, fought the Frightener, saved Abigail). Many of us have lots of saves and can oblige.
The game always uses a folder under My Documents for saves, no matter where you installed the game files; you can move My Documents using the Location property in Windows if you want it on a different drive.

Thats annoying, do you know if there are any better data recovery programs that might work to make the saves playable. If nothing else I guess I'll try asking someone for a save ( i'm not entirely sure where I was up to- just coming to the end of the bits in vizima i think..) but if at all possible I'd like to have my own game back, I dunno somehow it would seem a bit odd playing someone else's save when there are so many variables.. I guess it is just a game at the end of the day though!

If any thing has been written to the hard drive since the saves were deleted pretty makes it a null and void type of recovery of the save games . I have six saved games and would be willing to help . If you could remember about where you were i could see what i ave .

Oh well I guess I'll have to gor for the donated save option then, I guess I'm lucky that theres a thriving community willing to share.
As far as I can remember ( i hadn't played for months) I was in the merchants quarter at vizima, I'd given the boy to triss (although in fact I wouldn't mind a save before this too- i'd be interested to see what happens if you give him to shani) I remember having some quest to find out about that brothel owner's werewolf lover (theres a sentence you don't write every day) but that may have been a side quest...
So yeah not sure exactly but it was somewhere in act 3 (oh and I remember I'd saved up enough to buy the 5,000 orens armour too if thats at all possible
Thanks, for your help, Bitey
