Dice and best sword for The Beast questions

14.12.2011 @ 00:04 #1

In Chapter 1 in the Outskirts of Vizima.

If I roll a high straight or something else good like 5 of a kind on my first dice roll, how do I "Stay" so i don't have to roll another die?

I have a change to buy a sword made from 3 red meteorites for 2500.(using a Mod) I have the witcher sword and one of the swords the salamanders use that does 20 damage. I also have 2 red and 1 blue meteorites. The sword made with that is only 20% damage and 10% pain damage added.. not much better than my salamander sword. The Beast is coming up in a lil bit .. I reloaded the game to do some quests I missed and make some more money before The Beast.

When I played the Beast the first time he kicked my butt badly (as well as "Abby", my main squeeze Ha Ha).

Would buying this 3 red meteorite sword help against The Beast? I know it says most of the time these swords are ineffective against Monsters but that "most of the time" is the Key.. I'm thinking The beast could be an exception but I don't know..

If none of these swords will really help against The beast I'll just save my coin and my meteorites for later when I have collected more.

I also have two wet stones.. they do 10% extra Damage. Can I use two on the same sword for an extra 20% damage?

Just do not select any of the dice and place your bid. As higher as possible if you have a winning deal :)

Firstly, a meteorite sword made with three ores of the same colors have extra damage and critical effects. If you mix the color the risult is not very good. But there are swrods in the game MUCH better than a meteorite sword, believe me. Just play and do as many quest as possible.

The meteorite swords in fact ARE uneffective against monsters becoz it's a steel sword. Only a silver sword is good for them. This a basic of being a witcher: steel is for humanoids, silver for monsters. But until Act II you only have a a steel sword in in fact they made barghests and drowners and echinopses "killable" with that. But only in this Act. Later on you need a silver sword.

In Act I, I prefer making a Red meteorite sword, made with three red ores. It grants bleeding as critical effect, which one of the most effective and rare critical effect. Bleeding is extremely dangerous, coz it can't be stopped unless you take a witcher potion (which commonly foes don't have).

Those that really do the trick in The Witcher are oils and ointments: any monster has its own flaw, and its own oil. Both barghests and the Hellhound are specter, so you'll need a specter oil to kill them better. In Act I you cannot create any specter oil (unless you have a mod for it), but Abigail sells one. It's quite expensive, btw.

Nope, coz oils and whetstones effect is not cumulative. If you apply the same oil\whetstone twice you simply replace the first with the second, duration included.

To "stay" just click somewhere on the board but do not select any dice . Personally i would forget about the meteorite sword just make sure you have spectre oil to put on the sword you have . You should have gotten the recipe from Abigail . If you visit a place of power before going to the salamandra that would give extra boost to the Aard sign which you want to use on the beast that will help considerably . Regardless do not enter the hideout anywhere close to before midnight if its close to midnight when you take the potions the effects will be gone when you go to fight the beast .

Thanks folks. I haven't even tried any oils on the swords yet.. silly me. Don't know why.

The places of Power.. I didn't bother with them because I read it would either make your medallion vibrate to denote danger in the area or detect movement.. did I read something wrong? I just left the medallion as it was by default because i could not see needing to have a movement detector.

er.. sounds like I really read something way wrong.

Also confused about the stones that grant magic abilities near the cave/crypt entrance. I have the one that pushed a force from the prologue and the one that lights fire from the ghoul cave but this one didn't give me an added special ability?

I think the stone you`re referring to is the circle of the wayfarer or something like that . It also adds to your Aard ability . visit it and the place of power then go to the salamandra`s hideout .

The medallion can be set to detect monsters (Danger in the area) or magic such as the places of power but not both at the same time .

When you activate the stone notice the outer lower part of the ring and you should see the blue like triangle indicating Aard has been charged for some extra power generally you get extra power for stun or knockdown with Aard

I think default is detect monsters . You can check by going to a place of power to see if the medallion vibrates if not then it`s set to monsters . You can change the setting by going into meditation mode . I always left mine set to monsters .

Just to highlight on the places of power - you don't need to have your medallion set to "magic" to use them. The medallion setting just makes them a little easier to find (but, like Tommy, I always had mine set to monsters).

You are right.. by default it detects danger. I was mistaken.. But.. why then will you need to to have the ability to detect magic? Like the Places of Power, I can easily see that there is something magic happening - are there then places in the game with magic that is hidden to you?

I will look again closely at the stones and what they do. Thanks folks..

So far I'm loving this game but I find some parts a lil hard to grasp at first. I dunno of it's the tutorials or if I'm losing my marbles. Probably the later.

Places of Power are easy to find, even without the medallion, but not noticing a Drowned Dead sneaking up behind you is painful, so I always leave it on the default setting.

The Circle of Elements stones work this way: if this is the first time you have encountered a stone of this type, you will learn its sign, as you did with the Aard stone in the Prologue and the Igni stone in the crypt. After that, when you encounter a stone of the same type, you get a temporary bonus to the sign; for example, the Aard stone (Windy Wanderer) near the exit of Abigail's cave gives you a temporary bonus to Aard.

The Triple Red Meteorite sword is devastating against humans, but not that much value against the Beast.

The amateur tenor, whose vocal villainies
All desire to shirk,
Shall during off hours exhibit his powers
To Madame Tussaud's wax-work.

Thanks again folks.. I got passed it.

I used the oil I bought from "Abby", killed the guys in the abandoned house and when to the Windy Wanderer stones to upgrade my Aard just before I went down the trap door to get to the Salamadras. Turns out the oil was most helpful as I killed the beast quickly and didn't have to even use the Aard. Also because I reloaded to an earlier time, I think I leveled up another time this go round before I encountered The Beast.. I'm sure those Talant points helped.

Looking forward to Ch 2. (and the ladies of course. I'm such a man whore)

Well, later on you'll see how you will really, really need them if you wish to survive (especially on Hard and FCR mod).

Make large use of both Places of Power and Circle of Elements, coz they both grant you extra damage and intensity to the signs. They're especially useful if you are in need for xp, hunting monsters.

Places of Power grant +100% sign intensity (to any signs)
Circles of Elements grant +100% sign intensity to just one sign (the one to which the Circle is dedicated).

Congratz for defeating the Beast!
