I have a little problem and hope that I'm not the only one.
I already successfully completed the quest, but when I did the quest Death to the Traitor! and entered the backyard of Loredo's residence, the quest was suddenly updated and listed as failed.
Does someone know the reason for this or a way to prevent this from happening?

There are a few quests that will incorrectly show "failed" when you reach the Act I endgame, even if they have been completed. If you did complete the quest, you can safely ignore the error.
Did you get a "completed" earlier (got Vilmos to close his shop, and got your reward from Matilda)?

What version of the game are you on? Most of the problems with quest updates showing wrongly were fixed by 2.0.

Yes, as I said I already completed the quest.
It's just bugging me that a quest is falsely listed as failed.
Thanks for the fast answer. ›››

I asked about that specific way of completing the quest, because there are two ways to complete it, and they might have different results when you reach the Act I endgame. (You can side with Vilmos and tell Matilda off.)

Also, did you complete "The Scent of Incense"? The two quests are linked.
(My reason for asking - trying to work out why you're getting a failed quest in the journal and I haven't had one since 1.3. If there is a bug, it's worth reporting to the developers, as I assume there's going to be at least one more patch update)

I sided with Matilda and forced the herbalist to close down his shop and collected my reward.

Strange - I wonder what it was that caused the quest to show as failed? At least you got the points for it.
I've played that way several times, without the quest showing as failed. The only difference is that I kill the Scent of Incense guy after getting the reward. I'll check it out and see if that's what makes the difference (although it shouldn't - the quest is already marked complete by then, and killing him doesn't even update the journal.)

The Scent of Incense has also several ways to complete and if you go in a specific way to do it, the quest will fail according to wiki.

However, in your case the other related quest failed, maybe there is a connection. I'm not sure.
