Disable QTE

Hello.

Is there a way to completely disable or bypass QTE? I find it not only totally obnoxious from an overall game play perspective, but when used for fist fighting, it's broken as well. I just cannot progress beyond the dungeon escape sequence no matter how many times I've tried, or what game settings I use.

Thanks.

No, it isn't possible to disable it completely. I assume you already have "difficult QTE" turned off?

For the fistfighting, the key is to unfocus your eyes on the screen, and just watch for the symbols appearing. Also take note of where they appear on the screen - they match the physical position of the keys:
--W--
A---D
--S--

When you say you've tried with different game settings, does this include switching to windowed mode with a lower resolution? It's helped a lot of people who have problems with the QTEs.

The good news is that there's only one more mandatory fistfight scene in the game (two fights).

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, I have Difficult QTE turned off (unchecked). I have not tried lowering resolution or running in windowed mode. I'm guessing you're thinking frame rate or system performance is a possible issue? I get a consistent 60fps (v-sync is on to prevent tearing)... and with an i7 running at 4Ghz, an overclocked R6970, and 12GB of RAM, I shouldn't have a problem there anyway.

The thing is I can hit the keys when the indicators appear on screen. They just don't do anything. I've tried tapping them once, tapping them repeatedly, and holding them down, but my character never makes an attack... just stands there and gets pummeled. It's very frustrating, and quite frankly the whole thing seems silly to me. I'm not even sure what this "puzzle" is supposed to represent (in terms of real world actions and responses).

Obviously most people aren't having this problem... but it seems that a few are. It may be related to a particular system spec or configuration that has not yet been identified as problematic. I guess I'll just set the game aside and hope for a patch or some other solution.

Thanks again.

Do you happen to be using a wireless KB and mouse or a 360 controller ?

I have a Logitech G19 keyboard (not wireless) and a G700 mouse... which is wireless but I use it in wired mode (with the cable connected to a USB port).

I think I did find the problem however. I had the W key remapped to the right mouse button. I don't know why that would be a problem with the QTEs, but it was. When I reset the WSAD key mappings back to default, all of a sudden I was able to breeze through the fist fight. Weird that.

Thanks again.

More than likely it would be that the right mouse button is used for strong sword attack in game by default . Am certainly glad you figured it out though and hope you have a more pleasant gaming experience .

Really?? I guess that's true if you're 20 and have great reflexes and awesome eye-hand cooordination

I love The Witcher, this game and I love CDProjekt Red. However, I seem to be too slow.. or too old.. or both :crybaby: to get through the fist fights. It's a feature I wish was not in the game as it frustrates me to no end. MAYBE.. if the key prompts showed up in nearly one spot on the screen instead of being scattered all over creation, I might have a chance.

Funny thing is, I finished this game once, so I know I've done it in the past but for some reason in this playthrough I cannot get past the freaking fight when you first arrive in Flotsam. /sigh

I have Difficult QTEs unchecked but I haven't tried windowed mode with a lower resolution yet. I will give that a try... but I still hate the fist fights!

Welcome to the old-timers club :)

The "key prompts being scattered" can actually be helpful if you're using keyboard/mouse and haven't changed the bindings, as they reflect the key positions for WASD. So try using the positions as the cue instead of what's written on them. It often helps.

I too am too old and slow for the mandatory QTE fistfights. I got thru the dungeon after a lot of tries and memorizing what keys were going to come up. I still haven't gotten past the fistfight in Flotsam. I have got past the guard a couple of times, but my health is so low I get killed by that fat hangman. If this is the last mandatory QTE fistfight, I will struggle thru it trying the low res and windowed. I sincerely hope that CDPoject RED eliminates these is TW3. I liked the gaming system in TW1 much better that TW2. I didn't even realize that the Dragon was a QTE. I just ran with the King and was successful.
