I had also many troubles with this fight. Eventually I won with very simple scheme: Ard, imediately when you can (so he can't use first quen). Then strong hits. Prefereably pushnig him to the corner/walls. As soon as he starts recovering, then next Ard and again strong blows. If vigour ends, run in circles while it recovers (in fact not run, but roll, since it looks faster for me:)). As soon as you have vogour back and he is not in quen then ard and repeat with strong blows.
This helped me to finish him in two tries (I'm playing normal difficulty). :) Didn't used quen myself, because all vigour went to ard.

Thanks again for tips, tried those but I just cannot cast when wanted. As stated, I can be completely stationary with full vigor and try cast, character does nothing. Same goes for parry.

EDIT: Had to flick back to Easy, which was.. really easy.

Not sure what my input issue is, does anyone else get this; Push button several times with no action making use of signs completely random?

Too close to enemy? Spells are gated so that you can't cast while too close. Don't expect to be able to get in his face and then cast Aard.

ah-hah! ok, so that is the case, now I get that bit above from another. Although, I seem to have times when a good few meters (10+ perhaps, while in the arena) and it still gives me that sorta thing. But that discussion is probably for elsewhere.

 don't mind my lack of Jargological wisdom.

Many thanks
