So, I walk through a place of power, drink a potion, get hit with an attack or what have you and the buff/debuff icon appears in the middle of the screen.

Sometimes in hectic combat or at after loading a save from hours previous I would like to know what buffs or debuffs I have on me. The icon helps if I felt like deciphering what each icon meant, but I am wondering if there is a way to actually know what my status is?

It just makes very little sense to only have the icon. Is there any way to see the effect description or is this something we might see in a future patch?

I assume it's The Witcher 1 you're playing, and in that case I think you can go to the inventory screen or pause the game or something (anything that brings up a moveable mouse cursor), and then use the mouse to hover over the debuffs and see a description..
I actually don't remember if there's a pause function in TW1, but I do remember that there's tooltips for buffs and debuffs.

In TW2, you can see what potions you're using by going into meditation/drink potions. If you already have potions applied, it will show them in the cells. I don't know of any other way, or any way of telling what you've picked up from places of power or are suffering from in an attack, other than by learning what the icons mean.

I agree, it would be nice to have. It should be possible through mods, as they've done a lot of other useful stuff like that. I'll put in a request for you next time at The Nexus. The guy who did the UI tweaks has said he's updating sometime fairly soon for 2.0, so it would be worth asking him if he'd consider adding this.

No, I am talking about TW2. More concerned about debuffs and effects like poisoning (which is pretty obvious). Also though, I stood in a place of power and got a buff with a red cross and my health is recharging faster. Ok, but how much faster? What is the actual effect?

Sweet, thanks! I did actually look for a UI mod to do this but was unable to find one. Thanks for putting in a request for this!

This is lame that they don't have a description or something in there... I mean, when I bring up the quick menu (Holding Ctrl), and get the mouse cursor, let me read the description of the active effect when I hover over it...

Seriously, as an RPG I'm amazed that such a critical thing was overlooked...
