so i just walked into flotsam after i got out of the boat and the guardsmen walk up to me and tell me i have to pay 200 orens or they will kill me.

the problem is i just walked into flotsam so there's no way i committed any crimes. i also tried loading a save right at the beginning of the first chapter but its the same problem.

any1 else experiencing this glitch? any fixes? im pretty much getting charged 200 orens to enter flotsam

Don't they wanna kill you because you're charged with king Foltest's murder? You know, you're an escaped prisoner and there's a prize for your head, until you find the real kingslayer. You meet several groups of these headhunters in Act I and II. Just fight them, they're weak =)

Don't walk into town with your sword drawn. They don't like it.

I walked in about an hour ago, without any problem, so it's something specific that's causing it, not every time.

What about signs? Was Quen still active from the fight with the Scoia'tel? I remember reading that you weren't supposed to be able to cast signs in Flotsam either, although it never seemed to be an issue in the older version.

Having the exact same problem. I made sure no signs were used and no weapons were drawn, but as soon as the cutscene ends for first entering Flotsam, I get the guards and the crime cutscene. Seems to be related to 2.0.

Yeah, this seems to be something new. I had started playing a week ago (just bought it on Steam) but I intended to restart once 2.0 was out. First time I entered Flotsam (before 2.0 was installed) I didn't get that scene, but on the 2.0 playthrough it was there.

I wonder what you guys all have in common, that was different to me?

This is clutching at straws, but do you own silver swords? I'm wondering if it's interpreting "not having one" as "unsheathed" (I'm importing from TW1, so I have one).

I also walked around for a bit pilfering from crates before I followed them all into town. The only other variation I can think of is the route you use to go into the town centre. Do you just follow Roche and Triss, or go a different way?

Same, this seems to have been introduced with 2.0. I never got out of Flotsam on my first playthrough but I at least walked up to the gallows to watch Dandelion hang. Never prompted for the bribe. I went back to play through TW1 before getting too far in TW2 and then when I came back I just decided to start over with my import save and the 2.0 patch. Now, after two playthroughs up to Flotsam I keep getting prompted for the bribe. Never killed a guard, no sword unsheated in Flotsam.

This particular dialog mentions that you are being asked to pay for having killed someone and they mask the "bribe" by saying you are donating to the widows and children. But just to make it extra confusing Geralt DOES say "my hand must have slipped" as if he is making excuses for having unsheathed his sword.

We could all just pay the fine and pretend this didn't happen, or purposely fail the Woe to the Vanquished quest but those are pretty sad options for an RPG.

I don't think there's a connection to "Woe to the Vanquished" - I took a fairly violent approach to it, including fighting the commander, but still didn't get this bribe problem. It could be import-related, but that doesn't help you find a solution.

I think you probably all just need to pay the bribe. As far as immersion is concerned, Flotsam is the kind of place where guards are likely to try this type of trick.

Now that you mention it, on that first incomplete run that I mentioned I failed Woe to the Vanquished (I was skipping any side stuff), while I did complete it on my current one.

The other thing I can think of is the amount of money I had, which was significantly less on that first run (probably not even 200 orens).

At any rate, it's really no big deal, getting back the money is easy and it does add something interesting to Flotsam.

So, after reading this and 600 or so (ok probably more like 6 or 7) reloads... all of a sudden I walked through with no problem. The only thing I did differently was I loaded my save (autosave I think) RIGHT at the entrance of Flotsam and instead of running right in I sat there and listened to the dialogue from the three civilians about "Where the witcher goes, blood flows". Then figured, ok whatever I'll just pay the fine. Only, I was never prompted to pay it.

I saved in the middle of Flotsam to try to avoid it in the future...I hope.

Random, indeed.

This has nothing to do with sword being drawn as it happens directly after the cutscene of Iorveth and the Kingslayer chasing you into town, before you even have a chance to draw your sword. Take two steps into Flotsam, get hit with bribe.

For any others having this issue... I reloaded and reloaded and reloaded and it just... went away on its own. Seems to be random. There are two spots that seem to trigger the bribe, the docks close to the boat and the right hand turn leading deeper into Flotsam.

What I did was reload to the moment after the cutscene with Iorveth when you first get the "By the Gods...Stringing up Sods" quest and quicksave. Walk to one of those spots... if scene is triggered, reload quicksave and try again. Eventually it will not happen.

The reason this is a problem is that it counts as your one bribe. There are some random encounters later that might require you to kill a guard. If you do, and you've already paid the bribe once entering Flotsam will result in instant death with no chance at all to bribe or otherwise fight your way out of it.
