Stuck in "All the Kings Men"

07.09.2011 @ 02:34 #1

Hi everyone, it seems I ran into a rare bug, I cannot enter the House after Triss points it in the Map (I'm in the phase The Communication Stone of the quest).
I even tried reloading another savegame prior to asking Triss about the mirror, but still the door appears as "locked".

I have TW1 EE Steam version.

Thanks in advace.

First question, are you sure you're at the right door? There are several doors in this general area.

Second, when you cleared out the Salamandra base in the restricted area, did you speak to Radovid via the mirror there?

If you didn't do so, it breaks this stage. Either go back to a save before you left the Salamandra base so you can talk to Radovid (and get the 500 XP), or forge ahead by talking to Leeuvarden at the New Narakort (to start the final Act III quest).

Thanks for the response.
I looked at the door in screenshots, so that's not an issue. I did speak to Radovid, i will try to go to a previos save, thx again.

Sorry for the double post, but I reloaded a savegame previous to the Radovid conversation, did everything again, and still no luck. The Door that Triss marks is locked. :(

I can probably make you a fix for this. Upload your saved game somewhere and post the link here. I'll make a fix and test it on your saved game. If it works, I'll upload the fix for you.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

I downloaded your saved game, saw that you hadn't yet talked to Triss about the stone, and thought, "Aha! There's your problem." But when I talked to Triss about the stone and went to the right door, it was still locked. :wallbash: Yep, you've got the bug, all right. I guess you just gave me a saved game from before you talked to Triss, in case that was necessary for the fix, which was thoughtful of you.

So, I've made you a fix and tested it in your saved game (after talking to Triss about the stone and advancing the quest, of course), and it works fine. Here's the scoop:

This fix will give Geralt a scroll that unlocks the door to Radovid's hideout when Geralt reads it. The scroll goes into Geralt's regular inventory (so that you can drop it when you're done), so you'll need to make sure that you have an empty inventory slot when you use this fix.

There are 6 files that make this work:

ck_radscroll.uti
ck_unlock_rad.ncs
ck_unlock_rad.nss
custom_script.ncs
custom_script.nss
def_arealoaded.ncs

For a regular Witcher game, these files should be placed in your Override folder; if you don't have an Override folder, you can just make one. It goes in your The Witcher Enhanced Edition\Data folder. I don't know anything about Steam versions of the game, so I don't know how mods work with those. I'm hoping you do. ;)

The def_arealoaded.ncs script is from J_Slash (who made the Stuff That Makes Geralt's Life Easier mod). The custom_script files are my adaptations of his custom script, so full credit to J_Slash for both of those.

For others who may read this thread later on: This fix should only be used if you've definitely got a bug. Make sure that you've talked to Triss about the last communication that Salamandra made using the stone and that she's marked the location of the person they were communicating with on your map. Don't try to use this scroll just to bypass part of the game, or you could mess things up.

The def_arealoaded script can conflict with some mods. But if you're having a problem with your game, you should remove all your mods, anyway, to make sure that none of them are causing the problem. Once you've unlocked the door, you can remove all of these files from your Override folder.

Remember to unzip the fix before you put it in your Override folder!

I can't attach the file to this post, because of new forum rules. Bizarrely, the forum says, "Used 1.25MB of your 500K global upload quota (Max. single file size: 2MB)." In other words, prolific modders are not allowed, and no one should make a lot of files. Weird. I'm hoping that's not a new policy and just an error in the new forum software.

So I've uploaded the fix to The Witcher Nexus for you -- thank heavens for Robin Scott. You can find it at http://www.witcherne...file.php?id=199

First of all Corylea, THANK YOU very much, this is the best support I've ever had since gaming (and I'm a old time gamer, started in 1989... so).
Amazing fast and clear solution to my problem. This kind of people is just what an amazing game like this needs.
And even you worked that fix on a Sunday, a day off work for most of us.

Thanks again.

You're quite welcome, Universalmind. I love The Witcher 1, and I want everyone to be able to enjoy it to its fullest extent. I like that little conversation with Radovid, and I didn't want you to miss it!

Remember to remove the files for the bugfix from your Override folder, or the fix will give you a new copy of the scroll every time you try to drop it.

I'm glad my fix was useful! But, er, I'm a "ma'am," not a "sir." ;)
