What is the significance of these and what eastern legend are they from?

The Wawel Dragon. This dragon had been terrorizing the city of Krakow, and King Krak offered his only remaining daughter and half his kingdom to the man who killed it. Dratewka (or Skuba, depending on who is telling the story) the cobbler killed a ram, stuffed it with sulfur, and left it for the dragon. The dragon ate the ram, became terribly thirsty, and drank up so much of the Vistula river that it exploded. The cobbler and the princess were said to have lived happily ever after. You can visit the supposed dragon's cave at Wawel Hill in Krakow.

Thank you so much for explaining the story to me
I found the cobblers house in Flotsam, it looks like new tenants moved in.
Too bad you can loot some of those shoes off the shelf there, Geralt could use some new footwear.

And a story nicely subverted by Andrzej Sapkowski in The Limits of the Possibile/The Bounds of Reason short story to boot. Would have been a nice easter egg if the dead cobbler was called Kozojed

Yeah, I originally thought the game was referring to the short story. I didn't realize that the story itself was referring to an actual legend. Thanks to Guy N'wah for explaining that
