@Diss: did you get Fraps? try on High ( but no Antialias, no Ubersampling, no CutsceneDOF, no cinematic DOF, no Motion blur, no ingame DOF ) and walk around a bit and take note of framerate
TW2 manual install guide from the DVDs? See my post here

TW2 Enhanced Edition Patch install errors? See my post

(not for Steam) Enhanced Edition gives you "application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)" error? See here

@Licaon, wow, don't know how you arrived at those tweaks to the options, but just played through with settings as you instructed and it was VERY big improvement.

There is still the occasional stutter, but nothing at all like what I'd been experiencing.

I was running around Flotsam and the harbor area, as well as into the surrounding forest, and the fps averaged in the mid-40s, often in the upper 50s. Occasionally it sank very briefly to around 30, but never below that.

I of course knew to keep "uber-sampling" off and some of the others you mentioned, but wasn't aware that the DOF settings could be an issue.

This was definitely a big help. Thanks! Hopefully it will stay this way.

@calinRO: chill bro' ( DDR2, 65nm ) those are -not- issues ATM
and read Mordecei posts again, HD6770

@Mordecei: your video card is just a rebranded HD5770. so you should be fine on High ( but no Antialias, no Ubersampling, no CutsceneDOF, no cinematic DOF, no Motion blur, no ingame DOF ) ›››

Thanks helped alot. :)

Hi, It's an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 @ 2.66GHz. Definitely a few years old, but still handles every other game fine. Again, if this was a major problem, wouldn't I see the performance decrease in the majority of new games I play? The Witcher 2 is the only one giving me problems. I'm fine with not getting "Ultra" settings, but "Low" just seems way off. ›››

No. That is a decent CPU. A for performance in other newer games, probably not. TW2 is a bear when it comes using resources. Probably one of the most system demanding games I have seen. Might want to cut back on the FoV settings if you haven't already.
Cooler Master 912 HAF case, ASUS P8Z68-VPro motherboard, Intel Core i7 2600k Processor ( 3.4 Ghz OC'd to 4.4 Ghz ), Gelid Tranquillo CPU cooler, EVGA Nvidia GTX 680 Super Clocked Signature 2Gb GDDR RAM Video Card, LiteOn Optical drive, 8 Gb GSkill Ripjaws series X 1600 Mhz Ram,Samsung Series 830 256 Gb SSD, WD 1TB SATA III Hdd ( primary ), WD 1TB SATA II Hdd ( secondary ), Corsair AX850 PSU, running Windows 7 Home Premuim.

Same problem here since 1.3 patch.
With 1.2 patch The Witcher 2 ran at 30-45 FPS with an AMD5770 + Core2Quad Q9400

Problem solved fellas, I defaulted catalyst application center and now it's working just like before (maybe a bit slower..) but now is above 30 fps which is great

Witcher 2 has serious issues with ATI Cards, sorry.
The people recommending shutting every graphic enhancement off to play smoothly are off the mark. I have a fking AMD 5870 Card which plays Metro 2033, Crysis 1/2 on highest settings with ease without blinking and I won't turn down every graphic option just to avoid bad programming.
I can play the witcher 2 on lowest settings and on the very highest setting (-übersampling) and - at first - I get 60fps. UNTIL I move then the framerate jumps from 15 to 60 and everything in between in the same scene. I have to spend a few minutes in a new setting then the framerate solidifies UNTIL I go into a house or a new area. Then the game grinds to 15 fps for half a minute and the fun starts over.

Sorry developers, again, there ARE some SERIOUS memory issues with your game on ATI Cards. The detection tool is laughably bad, it doesn't even recognize the amount of my VRAM. Setting the memory size manually somewhat helps but I'd rather have a rock solid 35-40 fps than this kind of implementation. I wait for 1.4 and the new AMD patch. If this doesn't fix this issues, I sadly won't be playing anymore.

Yeah, you've described my problem well. Exactly what happens with me. What's crazy is, as mentioned above, I had a really good session earlier today where there was barely any lag at all, then went back to try it a few minutes ago, same settings, nothing new going on on the system, and the lag/stutter is back again. So freakin' weird. Very frustrating, as the game looks great, but I just can't stand this start/stop/go stuff.

Sorry, but what exactly do you mean by "defaulted catalyst application center"? Thanks.

I meant I put the catalyst application center game options at default values, and that worked for me :)
