I gave some glowing feedback to "Medical Problems: The Village Mystery.
" Did I think the follow-up, "Medical Problems 2: The Witcher Disease" was just as good? You bet! In fact, in many ways, it's even better!
My favorite things about this great adventure:
-Continuity with MP1. Geralt and Dandelion talking about the adventure in a tavern was a nice framing device, and it allowed the player to start off MP2 according to the ending they got in MP1. My own choice was "We arrived at Kaer Moren quickly."
-Two redheads, oh my! Triss and Shani elbow to elbow, and, uh...boob to boob? The fan fantasy comes true!
One pleasant detail I noticed was that Triss and Shani have different naked bodies rather than just the same generic "human female" body with their heads stuck on (as in Dragon Age for example). As a fan of both girls, thanks from me and my ...uh, well, as Geralt said in MP1, "I don't think I've ever been thanked by a specific body part before."
-Locations, locations, locations. No running around the same village this time, instead you get sent everywhere!
First of all, bravo on combining the Kaer Moren valley with the Kaer Moren Fortress. I'm almost certain you can't actually go into the Fortress in Price of Neutrality, and you sure can't go outside it in the prologue of TW1. But here they're seamlessly combined. I could easily just wander around the valley taking in the view.
Then you have other areas that have received cool makeovers. The Outskirts, the Trade Quarter, bits of inside areas, and most impressive, Mahakam! Once again I thought you had somehow designed a map from scratch until I saw the rock bridge, and I realized....Ice Plains.
-I liked the focused, driven main quest. There were side quests, but you never lingered too long in any one area. Lives are on the line, and friends' lives at that. Medical Problems 2: This Time It's Personal.
-Even with the speedy arrivals and departures to and from areas, every area got the full treatment. No empty rooms or NPC's named "Peasant" or "Old Man." People are carrying on their lives all over the world. And even optional NPC's are interesting, like the guard in the unknown city: "I'm guarding this gate for the rich bitches." I liked the adopted dwarf too. And did I see a Pratchett character in that tavern?
-Horse: Neigh! Geralt: I miss Roach.
-Multiple factors contributing to the end, including a way to get a great end and way to get a terrible end, and several in-between.
I also liked how thorough the ending was (nothing ruins an otherwise good adventure than just having it end abruptly with a subtitle like "and then Geralt left."). Every great story needs a satisfying ending.
-The Nightmare. He gets special mention for being scary and unexpected (and killing me the first time through).
-The Hallucination. Well, talk about scary, Alvin the Giant will be nightmare fodder for some time I think, especially the weird way he looks when he's dead (see my screenshots).
I also liked the Blue Naiad and the constant lightning bolt and the whole trippy color palate of the dream.
Well, sadly Corylea I have to mention one or two bugs, although I think you're aware of some of them:
-Crashes on loading the laboratory. Nothing to be done about it, but good job on implementing the autosave right before. It saved me headaches from having to backtrack.
-Meditating at Zoltan's house results in a stuck Geralt who can't get off the floor. I'm certain I downloaded MP2 directly from your site about a month ago, so it should be the latest version...?
-There's a sort of glitch in the final dialogue with Triss, Shani, and Elianna that allowed me to get the good Triss ending even though I insulted her and was forced to torture Elianna. I thought I was going to get stuck in a loop for while but eventually the dialogue resolved itself. But the ending was mismatched from what happened. I'll post the steps to reproduce the bug if you like.
Regardless, this was great fun, and a really top notch adventure that stands out among the crowd. A heartfelt thanks for the hours of entertainment!
P.S. As before, I took lots of screenshots! Check out my gallery for Medical Problems 2
