How much is considered "canon"? Are the events in both games considered "official" by Sapkowski? Just curious.

Also, do you learn in the books how Geralt's resussurection came to be? Just yes or no, I'll wait for the translation, if yes. :-)

Thanks in advance!

Sapkowski wasn't involved in creating a game and no book's ended with Geralts death , but CDPR asked Sapkowski did Geralt survive or no he confirmed that Geralt survived so they made a game.

The only thing Sapkowski and CD RED have in common is the world map, which Sapkowski made out of respect to CD RED. He also stated he didn't hate how The Witcher turned out, although he never played it, and he have stated that he liked how Geralt looks in The Witcher 2. There is several people from the book who's in the game but also alot of newcomers.

Quote

Geralt didn't survive it in the books, and this is why people who know Geralt are suprised he's alive in the game. The reason why he survived was cause CD RED changed the idea to let you play as a random witcher and instead play with a familiar one and who could fit better than the famous White Wolf.

It will become clear in The Witcher 2 how Geralt survived, but this is something that CD RED made completely on their own. I don't think Sapkowski mind though that they've choose to resurrect Geralt.

Sapkowski hasn't made world map , it was first drawn by Witcher Chezh translator , CDPR improved it and Sapkowski approved.

Yes Geralt dies in the book's , but Sapkowski confirmed to CDPR that Geralt survived or so they said in "Making of The WItcher"

Guess I missunderstood one interview then where Tomasz Gop said that Sapkowski made the world map.

I find that to be debatable, mainly cause if CD RED didn't pick Geralt as the main role he would have stayed dead.
I think the whole idea for him to survive is so they can continue this mystery to the second game.

I quite agree with you , but non the less Geralt isn't dead to Sapkowski we may even hopefully see continuation of Witcher saga by grand master himself.

I actually believe The Witcher would be way better game if Geralt wasn't main character , but we rather would have to create our own Witcher imo it's way easier to role-play fresh character rather than very developed one as Geralt.

Sapkowski considers the games to be fan fiction, not canon.  But he does like the game a lot better than he liked the TV show.

Geralt was resurrected by CDPR, so there's nothing about it in the books.  CDPR clearly has great power, to be able to resurrect a hero from the dead. :-)

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

This is exactly right. If it weren't for the game, however canonically incorrect it might be, I'd never have discovered the books (all 2 of them released in English, lol) which are absolutely amazing. And I'd never have found my way here, and never have decided to play in the world myself.

I for one am not unhappy that CDPR decided to muddy the waters a little.

Just replaying what happens in the books wouldn't be very interesting for those who have read the books, so I'm glad they changed it around. A lot of the events from the books are referred to in the game, which I like. I don't like that only two books have been translated to English :(

Two?

I've managed to get my hands on The Last Wish, but I didn't know there was another available. Time to embark on another quest!

i read The Sword of Destiny in French, and I agree with you.  Luckily, a few of the stories have fan translations, so English-speaking readers can read a couple of those stories.

For those who don't know about them, those fan translations are here: http://tw1.thewitche...6380#msg5466380

Is there a link to the books anywhere? The links in the first post are all dead, and I'm not sure what are "final" and what are "WIP" links throughout the thread itself.
