Confused about transition from Prologue to Act I

New Witcher player here. I just finished the Prologue and proceeded to Act I, however, I am a little confused about the transition between the two.

After Leo's funeral, Geralt heads south to Vizima. There is an Indiana Jones style map sequence and then the cut-scene where a woman and a child are attacked by a pack of Barghests.

Next, the playable game resumes with Geralt already in the "Outskirts of Vizima". Geralt mentions something about his travels there, but this was never really part of the transition from the Prologue to Act I (unless you count the map sequence).

Did I miss something? I am just trying to make sure I didn't accidentally skip a cut-scene somewhere.

I appreciate it.

No, you didn't skip anything, it's all correct. Geralt went to the outskirts and needs to go in to the town. Remember Vesemir in Leo's funeral? He told Geralt to go to Vizima, because he once helped the king's daughter there, and might get some help now with his research for the bandits.

Enjoy your play, and welcome!

The fact is that Geralt's planned to travel to Vizima, but something stops him on the road. And you're about to see what it is ;-)

I guess I am confused because we don't see Geralt get stopped on the road. The next time we see Geralt, he is already within the gates of the "Outskirts of Vizima". Unless that is what you mean by "on the road". I suppose I would have expected to see him get stopped on an actual road (not trying to be snarky) instead of inside a town (of sorts).

In any event, I was more concerned with the notion that my Witcher installation was corrupt, or somehow missing a cut-scene. I'm happy that I didn't miss anything.

Thanks!

It's exactly what I meant, you are correct. The stop in actually the Outskirts. :)

I felt his sudden appearance inside the gate of the little fort around the Inn was odd, as it didn't show him arriving and there was nothing like a speech or inner monologue to mention his thoughts as he arrived (such as he does, for example, when he happens upon places in other chapters of the story). He was suddenly just there, and I was confused about where he was and had felt like there had been a scene missing until I worked it out through talking. Shani's appearance also seemed sudden and odd...it was very confusing, lol.

It reminded me of the intro movie where there are parts that seem to jump and disconnect from what's happening and the continuity felt a little disconnected from other parts (like the chain around his arm that disappears before he uses it, when he throws the Striga into a half-broken structure and it felt like there parts missing from the scene, that sort of thing).

Everybody traveling to Vizima gets stranded in the Outskirts, and the Inn is the first and only place open to travelers, so it makes sense that that is the first place Geralt goes, and it's also the place he runs into Shani and others who are likewise stranded there.

Geralt already being there when the barghests attack makes sense if you don't get too hung up on Geralt having to be literally "stopped on the road".

What doesn't make sense is the civilians just standing around while Geralt fights the barghests. Myself, I and all the the civilians I know would leg it for the door, PDQ.
