PM I've just met Shani and the little boy named Alvin in Chapter One for the very first time in Vizima, and, I'm completely confused, what must I do after I first meet Shani for the very first time in Vizima very early in the game???, please help me.

If you talk to Shani and tell her that you're looking for men who wear Salamandra badges, she'll tell you that the person who would know about that is The Reverend. So, go talk to The Reverend.
In general, when you first arrive in a new place, you should talk to EVERYONE in town. Also read the notice board that's outside the inn for side quests.
Some of the people you talk to will give you quests, some will give you useful information, some will just be colorful background information. But all of them add interest and flavor to the game.
Wander around, talk to everyone, go inside any caves or crypts or shops you find, just generally explore. It'll all come clear if you do.
