Act II - A Long Way From Home

I put the Axe on the Altar, run to a campfire and wait, go back and get the amulet.  When I grab the amulet, the quest log updates as if I had been killing everything, and says I should continue doing so.  I can't turn the amulet in to Yaren (as the wiki specifies).  Tried loading an earlier save and attempting it again, but I get the exact same result.  I'm basically being forced to go the violent route when I'm supposed to have a choice here.

If you can't tell from my other posts lately, I'm getting pretty fed up with problems in "The Witcher".  I want to keep going because I hear it's worth it, but crap like this consistently happening has me pretty close to just putting it down entirely.

Did you talk with Vaska on how to communicate with the fish people
Also after talking with Yaren did you kill 3 bloodzuigers on the way towards the cave , a group of drowners toward the altar of meletiele and after passing the altar staying on the road to the right take out a few echinops. The only choice you have is how you deal with the vodyonoi

The peaceful way can only be triggered if you talk to Vaska, and only then you you can ask for Yaren's axe If you already have the axe, you obviously did all that. In that case you did everything that is required of you, and it's still not working properly.

As you're having many bugs, I suggest you patch your copy to the latest version. It's odd you ran into so many bugs. I played the 1.0 version many times without so many bugs. I must say you're very unlucky. :(

I'm on Steam and it has the latest patch.  I resorted to loading a save that was made about an hour earlier, and now the quest worked as intended.

Ran into what I think is a silly quest bit with Yaevann and the letter, but that's okay.  It wasn't game-stopping - I gave the letter to Vincent, my journal said I needed to construct a lie to tell Yaevann, and then when I talked to him the only option was to outright say I didn't deliver the letter.  Journal updated to say that I had lost his trust and was in his bad books, but I spoke to him again and he said he trusted me for doing the favor (assume this means he thinks I delivered the letter) and he gave me the option of escorting some Scoia'tel to collect some goods.

I turned it down for continuity's sake, but is there some sort of fan-made patch that addresses bits like this?

EDIT:  Also, I must say that this game is far better with Polish Voiceovers with English subtitles.  English VA just doesn't sound as into it as the Polish actors do :)

This is correct.  You have to kill three groups of monsters even in the "peaceful" version.  It sounds to me like the glitch is in your expectations, not in the game.

Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.
