is the dog catcher; finding tallow is a pain if you don't want to slaughter all the pooches.

I ended up killing 1 for my last tallow out of sheer annoyance of searching all the homes and buildings over and over.

I think the worst one is escorting Vesna. I hate escort missions since doing the trader escort quest in Fable I.

You can also buy some here and there, from the waitress for example, or other merchants. In the Trade Quarter (chapter 3) you can find a full series of different merchants, much more than in chp 2. You can delay the dog tallow quest until chp 3 since it's a secondary quest. In the case you mind killing some virtual puppy I mean...... for me it's a matter cof conscience ù_ù

You can easily have more dog tallows than the quest requires without harming those faithful (and only) friends of humanity.I gathered 2 more than required last time around. I deposited the extra 2 in the inn chest, but never collected it again. "Suet" is far too common......

How can the escort of  Vesna be the worst quest? Do you not know what the reward is?

Well, then you're not the first one who died trying to get some, nor will you be the last.....

That doesn't mean it's a vain exercise. It shows us the importance of trying again and again till success is achieved....

lol Vesna was difficult for me to track down at the mill and since I was still learning the game and when and where to get to places I ended up over thinking it.

As far as the Dog Tallow goes. I still played the game save where I eliminated one stray for a tallow after I had found the others laying around. Of course in ACT 3 now and I've found a ton more :/ at least they're decent for alchemy now. iirc they are for insectoid blade coating which I want to use for a certain queen.

:D While it's possible to kill the queen using sword but I doubt you'll manage it in your first encounter. There is another way to do it and it's one of the points in the game where people have trouble often. I suggest you don't read anything about it if you want to find out yourself.

Thanks for the tip. Though if it pains me to much I'll probably end up looking it up. I hope I don't though.

Just one hint for the certain queen: There are situations in the game where pure violence and fighting abilities won't let you succeed but agility and finesse. I think in TW2 we will meet occasions like this. As Tom Gop somewhere mentioned: We have to know the environment to take advantage from it ;-)

Giving Vesna a save escort:

I know it's not for the purpose of the quest but if you want to visit the mill with her afterwards *whistle*
I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…

Speaking TW2. I just hope my PC can run it; or those console versions turn out. I'd prefer to keep it on my PC for mod potential.

Just afraid it's going to be to much of a beast to run. I can run Witcher now at top end with no hiccups or anything but it's so not optimized compared to what 2 is showing.

7. What system requirements the game will have? – As for now (end of August), TW2 runs smoothly on computer with high-end CPU / GPU and 4GBs of RAM. By the date of premiere, 2 core CPU and mid-end GPU will probably be enough to run the game smoothly. It’s been also tested on laptop – with success. WARNING! These requirements are VERY approximate. More info will be available in 2011, when the optimization will begin

It's kinda official because one of the REDs checked this FAQ for mistakes and additions lately.

That does give me a little hope then. I wonder if the console versions are still going to work out.

A lot of people feel that way in movies, books etc not just games. Take the movie I am Legend as an example.

I think it's because people feel they are like children. They look to humans for every basic necessity and are victim to our whims. Humans fighting humans involves 2 groups that can each defend themselves and often times make decisions that avoid conflict altogether; whether they do or not is up to them.

Though these dogs in Vizima are typically stray dogs that no one claims any ownership of. But today in real life those are the same dogs that end up in animal shelters and the same that we are typically encouraged to adopt when we get a new pet.

Agressive but ultimately innocent Stray Dog > Salamander, Scio'atael, Order, Corrupt Outskirts Citizen.

I think it might also have something to do with the idea that when you hit one. They run like crazy and cry while tucking their tails.

The poor dogs don't even fight back. The humans you kill are generally trying to kill you anyway, and killing them is "self-defense".

Anyway, dogs are more loyal than most humans. Killing them like that is totally unjustified.

I really didn't think much about the tallow quest. Maybe I wasn't immersed into the game much then. I remember when the night came, I killed all of the stray dogs in the Temple Quarter. I don't hate dogs, I actually like dogs and other animals but I was bitten by a kangal in the past which had an owner. Since then I don't enjoy the company of the stray dogs much. I hate when people don't tie their dogs especially if it's an aggressive one.

I expected the dogs in the Temple Quarter to fight back though.

That's the whole point. The first time I played the game, I attacked my first dog and it whimpered and limped away. It  was so pathetic I left it alone and never killed another dog. Collected all tallows from homes/drops.

I'm not a fan of strays, but killing them for tallow is not the solution.

PS:I'm not with PETA

On my first playthrough I didn't mind killing the strays. It was just for the benefit of Geralt, who was broke at that time. Though I admit there was an uneasy feeling when they were hit by the blade and cried. The reason was... they were defenseless and didn't defend themselves when they were attacked.
I don't have scruple when I attacked wolfs, cos they defend themselves.

And I didn't feel comfortable when I killed the Illusionist, the guy with the familyring which wasn't his ring. Yes, he was a pretender, a thief but didn't defend himself when I attacked him with a weapon. Was he armed at all? I just chose this option once to see what happened and then not anymore. It wasn't the loot worth.
