I just recorded a cool video, battling the first boss on Hard level. The battle was very nice and challenging.
Hope everyone can enjoy it. With love to this awesome game, the best PC rpg I ever played :)

Lol that's exactly what I did.  Made it a completely underwhelming finale though.

**** **********!!!! It's been a while and I had forgotten the single most annoying thing about the game: no time to set up before this fight at all. Stupid cutscene with the villagers takes away whatever effect potions you could take before it would give you. I'm sure it was done like that on purpose, but it's just so frustrating. I'm sure I could do it if I didn't care about keeping abigail alive, but that's why I keep failing :( AAARGH!!!!!!

I always let abigail take care of herself and there is a safe spot you can go to if you need to take potions or regen

Blah. Shows you how long ago it was since I last played this. Abigail keeps coming back even after she's "died". Just gotta stay alive long enough until she does. Witch took my kill though :(

Holy crap. Took him out yesterday on Normal after a lot of running around, then the darn game crashed before I saved it. Tried again today, and failed 3 times. Dog bites me 2-3 times in the arse, and I'm seeing grey. Then I turned off the game in rage.

Think I have to try and find that safe spot, cause running around for ever gets boring, and isn't so successful either when there is the beast and 6-7 other bastards following me and getting a bite now and then.

So frustrating that each and every fight in this game starts with the sword on the back, so often half the health is gone (at least in the beginning) before you are able to do anything.

Gotta watch getting bit on the arse ...can make for a rough time sitting down. Spectre oil and aard help here as for me personally i don`t worry with the barghests and go straight for the beast aarding him as much as possible i think when you get his health down a bit he can be stunned with aard. Using any mods ?

Have you put any points into Aard?  When I fought this battle on Hard, I Aarded the Beast, he stunned, and Geralt killed him with a finishing move.  It was quite anti-climactic, especially since I'd taken a Swallow and put Specter Oil on my blade and all that stuff.

Aard doesn't always stun the Beast the first time, but if you keep trying (and if you've put a couple of points into Aard), it can turn this battle from a long, hard slog into a moment's work.

If you don't have any points in Aard, then that will help.  The spot is here:

You need to use keyboard commands to draw your sword; it makes it much faster!  Since you only have the steel sword in Chapter 1, that's Q.  Just press "q," and Geralt will draw his steel sword.  You can draw it before the Beast gets close, even.

Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

YESSSSSSS!!

Gave it one more try and finally slayed that abominable creature. The Beast was over me even before I could hit Space or Escape (trying to save, but futile this time too). Thankfully I had a Rubedo Tawny oil, and I drank that right away. Then ran away a little and drew up my sword (I use the keyboard for that with Q/E).

For once Abigail stayed a live for a good while as the hounds were hounding me (sorry). Read I could put out the flames where the barghests spawn with Aard, so tried that. But nothing happened. Maybe cause a barghest happened to spawn the flame I was trying to put out.

Ran about some more, Abigail healed me. Must have gotten in a few hits on the beast when I was grouping away the barghests so it was down to 80% or so. Darn thing stunned me (or whatever it does) so I was standing there like a candy machine. In desperation I tried to aard him when I got back, and sweet Nelson it connected! A coup de grace has never felt as good as this one!! ;)

Having completed the game only some days ago, I can conclusively say this is the toughest fight in the game. I voted the Kikimore somewhere, but that was an error. Guess I was lucky last time I beat this thing, or didn't remember. It's an incredibly spike in difficulty from anything else we have met so far in the game. And what is perhaps worse, there is absolutely no way to prepare for it, even though Geralt goes looking for him. We're not ambushed or anything like that. But try to put on oil or take potions before the fight (in the cave) and everything is magically removed when you meet the beast.

Frustrating, but finally took the dog. I want to put its head on my mantle now. Or wear it as a necklace. Indian headwear. Whatever. Just glad it's over and I can move on (and this time I saved right away!)

You can prepare yourself. The game moves the time to 0.00 before the fight. If you wait till 11 p.m. before leaving the cave and have your drinks at this time Geralt will be fine at the beginning of the fight.

Yes i think this one and the Zeugl are the hardest of the game. I think this one is one of the hardest because your not that far in the game and therefore not really leveled properly but i believe if you apply oils and take potions before leaving the cave as long as its a couple of hours before midnight your ok . I`ll have to replay this part to confirm it though. Anyway congrats on your victory it was well earned and deserved

Yeah, was great to get over it. Frustrating when being stuck. Didn't know about the time for the mission and potions. Just noticed it was all gone when the fight started. Will check the time next time I do it and make sure I have potions in the body when I go into that fight.

It's very tough to be so early in the game. I had already levelled up a bit too, so had bronze on level 2 on the four qualities, both signs and I think all 3 steel styles (plus level 2 damage). Not like I was weak. Very tough to beat without coup de grace. And it's pure luck if one of those connect. I saw some people could get it right from the start, even on hard.

Been playing on hard myself.. and to be frank, I've had harder problem on Medium than on Hard. I slayed him right away. (Damn, I was suprised too) Just to get a maxed Aard and Specter Oil and he indeed drops like paper.
