How Time Travel is possible in the year 1270.

How Teleportation is possible in the year 1270.

Why all of the NPC's look the same.

Why there's always someone standing in the way at the door of the New Narakort Inn.

Why Olaf's head is so big.  His head is bigger than Rosie O'Donnell's head.

1. Only possible to Lara Dorren's offspring with active Hen Ichaer (Elder Blood) gene. Only females have active gene of this type. Such women possess unique magical gifts, which are often used without owner's consciousness and go out of control.

2. Advanced magic used by talented mages.

3. Engine/game's budget/time limitation.

Riight, so the apparently male Big Bad was not only prone to random uses of such talents, but also secretly a female Vilainnous Crossdresser? :P

I'm basing my reply on facts from the book. I don't know why Alvin can use such powers being male. In books there was male offspring of Lara Dorren but they didn't have any unusual powers. Hen Ichaer gene was inactive in them.

Hush, do not mention either of the Big Bads names in the general forum! Such spoilers should only go into the Story and Quests forum. To tell the truth, the whole topic seems to be more appropriate to that forum.

There is an exception for everything! (or the author, who wrote for the game forgot that special "genetics" part... we won't blame him!)

I actually just wait for the moment, when little white haired children run around Geralt and cry: Are you my daddy, are you my daddy?!
POOF! A not any closer described guy pops-up out of thin air and says: Sorry, dude, but YOU'RE the exception!  Congratulations! By the way - I tried to tell you sooner, but then you was dead and stuff...

In certain moments, a sword can be very practical...

You do realize that the game is not set in our world, but rather a fantasy setting with magic?

:D I was thinking the same thing but didn't answer since people answered the OP to an extent I don't know about.

Well, Big Bad had a murky origin, so... He might as well not be from this world, as far as we know. Possibly something to be elaborated in TW2.

Seriously, TW lore can be very tricky at times. I just recently found out that Zerrikania was to the north of Poviss, which in turn is one of the northernmost kingdoms. That's what I get for assuming south is where the hot is. :s

Here's the game map:

When I see that right, then would Hakland and Zerricania be more to the S-E on THIS  map.

Fanmap (?)

Here it's more N-E...

I know t here was another map, but  I can't find it anymore. =.=

I was thinking more about book quotes than maps (i have the game map under glass on my desk 8) ). Only info I can easily find mentions Zerrikania lies somewhere in the east.

Anyway, I'd say the game map makes way more sense than that fan-made one, especially since the game one was actually consulted with Sapkowski.

*scratch head*  If in danger or in doubt... ask the Witcher Wikia...  XD

I thought that the game took place in our world, in the year 1270, in the Northern Kingdoms.

Sure, because our world was FULL of elves and dwarves and various monsters in the 1200's. And there obviously were kingdoms such as Kaedwen and Temeria, and a Nilfgaardian Empire. It's just that historians are silly like that and missed it all. Or better yet, there's a CONSPIRACY to keep all these things secret. The Witcher was only released due to luck, for the Powers-That-Be do not wish us to know the truth!

Gorthuar, do you really want to tell us, this all doesn't exist?  O,o'
Some of my neighbours at least look orcish enough, so you can believe there once was a place called MORDOR!
