"Medical Problems" is a new, fan-made adventure for The Witcher.

Posted Image

Description:

Shani needs help fighting an epidemic of a new, unknown sickness.  But what could a monster slayer possibly do about a medical problem?

The game has several different possible endings, depending on which choices you make while playing.  Three choices each have consequences, making eight different paths through the game, and which ending you get depends on the combination of choices.  (Post #2, in this thread, talks about which choices have consequences and what those consequences are.  A lot of it is under spoiler tags, so you can pick and choose what you want to know.)

Geralt has monsters to kill, human lives to save, a mystery to solve, and witcher contracts to fulfill.  There are also some ladies to woo, though all but one of them are optional. :-)

Features:

    * 12 quests (only 11 of which can be completed in any one game, since two of them are mutually exclusive)
    * 45 NPC's, all of which have names and conversations of their own.
    * 18 explorable areas plus three special areas, with 19 new loading screens
    * 40 monsters to kill
    * 6 sex cards to get, including one new one and 5 recolored ones
    * Many, many recolors of clothes, items, and even some areas
    * Several new items
    * Approximately 5 hours of gameplay

How to get it:

There are two versions of "Medical Problems" available; choose the one that best suits your needs:

1.  For everything you need in one file, download the version available from
The Witcher Nexus  OR
The general modding site ModDB  OR
The first of the two versions available on the author's website
(The version on my own site is the most consistently updated, followed by the one at the Witcher Nexus.)

  a.  Download the all-in-one version.
  b.  Unzip the folder.
  c.  Follow the installation instructions.
  d.  Play.

2.  For those who are comfortable moving files around on their hard disks, the second of the two versions available from my website (http://corylea.com/) has the adventure and the movies in two separate files.  This should give you somewhat faster loading times.
  a.  Download the no-movies version.
  b.  Download the movie folder.
  c.  Download the main loading screen.
  d.  Unzip the adventure.
  e.  Follow the installation instructions for the adventure.
  f.  Unzip the movies folder.
  g.  Put the movies folder into the folder where your other Witcher movies are.  (On many computers, this is at The Witcher Enhanced Edition\Data\Movies, but the location of the folder varies, depending on whether you installed the EE from a disk or upgraded the original edition to the EE via patch.)  In any case, if the folder has files like "cs_sex_abigail1.bik" and "intro.bik" in it, it's the right place.
  h.  Put the  ls_load.dds file in The Witcher Enhanced Edition\Data\Override.  (Remember to take this out of your Override folder when you play the main game or another module!)
  i.  Play.

How to get help, ask questions, and make comments:

"Medical Problems" comes with four text files:

1.  An installation manual
2.  A hint sheet
3.  A list of cool things to be sure to see
4.  A walkthrough

Walkthroughs take half of the fun out of a game, so it's only there in case of a playing "emergency." :D  If you get stuck or have a question that isn't covered in the installation manual or the hint sheet, ask it here in this thread, and I'll answer you.

Oh, and if you think you can make a better adventure for The Witcher  than "Medical Problems," please do! :-)

Estimated playing time:

There's a lot in "Medical Problems," but most of it is elaboration.  If you talk to every villager, read all the tombstones, read the "History of Riverford" that's in the library, kill all the monsters (including the ones nobody is paying you to kill :teeth:), well, it could take a long time.  If you talk to only a few of the villagers, don't explore much, don't read any of the "lore" stuff and focus fairly narrowly on accomplishing the quests (and bedding the women ;)), I'd guess about three hours.  If you explore most of the game but aren't obsessive about seeing every last thing, then I'd guess about five hours.

There are three player choices that determine the ending of "Medical Problems"

1.

2.

3.

Choice #2
makes the biggest difference -- you get a VERY different ending, depending on which path you take.  Since you make this choice close to the end of the game, you might enjoy restoring from save and making the other choice, then seeing how that plays out.

Choice #1
has two effects:

Choice #3
makes a difference in whether you get home to Kaer Morhen early or late, though whether you get there at all depends on Choice #2, and you can still get there late -- even if you made the "early" choice in #3 -- depending on Choice #1.  Also, if you make the "late" choice in #3, you'll start your journey to Kaer Morhen in a different place -- you'll have an extra area to traverse and some extra monsters to kill.  (For some players, this might be a reward, rather than a penalty. :D

After having done just these three little choices, I'm even more impressed at how many choices CDPR managed to keep track of in the main game!

*paces up and down and waits for the mod to appear on the witcher download page...*  I am not so good at moving stuff around on my computer so will have to wait until they upload the whole thing.  I think I'll go for a walk - or I'll be checking back here every half hour for it!  ;D

Well done, Cory, really excited about this one!  ;D

It's taking them a lot longer to get to it than I thought it would ... so the all-in-one version is available at my page, too: http://corylea.com/

Greetings,

I am so happy for you  :) :)

But I can not download just yet, I must first go back and delete Roxtar's Black Edition..  For some reason Geralt keeps going invisable like.... Or changes to a solid color (bright white with a yellow tint or brown), I must toggle between F3 and F2/F1 to get Geralt back...  All other aspects of the mod works nicely (I like the hair)..

Roxtar has said to download an updated Geralt mod/file in one of his posts, but I am unable to find it..  I even sent a pm, as of yet no reply, so I must go and clean up then download your gem..  Plus I am on call (driver) as my daughter-in-law is about to go into labor at any hour now...... Busy busy !!

I've never used Roxtar's mods and don't support them, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

The dog we had when I was a kid was like that.  She wasn't allowed in the living room at the top of the stairs, so she'd have her back legs on the very top step and stretch as much of her body into the living room as possible ... but she wasn't "in" the living room, because her legs were still on the back stairs!

*sigh*  I thought I had fixed this ... Hound stopped doing it on my computer.  There's no reason for him to be doing that; he had four action points already.  On my computer, he stopped "sticking" when I gave him a fifth.  Damned greedy dog.  :D

Well, I just finished the adventure and I really enjoyed it :) You put a lot of work in making this and it was absolutely worth it. You are really creative, I liked few old-new models like

New decorations were very good too(especially outskirts).

And there was even something unexpected in the end ;) Really great work, thanks for the adventure!

Hey Corylea... finally you made, good job  Posted Image

I spread the news and forwarded all necessary info as "user's news" of your adventure to PCGames, one of the leading gamer website (and print mag) overhere. They have just to approve my news. I'm confident they will as they often introduce Witcher community adventures and mods.

Good luck
I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…
