The point of hints is that they shouldn't be too specific :P

Did you find any references to Vlad the Impaler in TW2? And how did Vlad the Impaler try to "drive away" a threatening presence?

Don't forget the actual riddle.

- Failed to get rid of threatening thing.
- Imitated something that actually worked.
- Creation that shimmers.
- Bite!

It should be WAY easier now :)

Is it Batman? xD

- Reference in the game: The Executioner in Flotsam has a Batman-like mask
-Failed to get rid of a threatening thing: Well, initially I guess he failed to stop the Joker until the end?
- Imitated something that actually worked: Other superheroes? Spiderman/Superman etc. He was just a rich guy so he bought himself a suit. He's no real superheroe but he sort of imitates them.
- Creation that shimmers: His batman identity?
- Bites: Well, bats...

The point is to guess what element, from the game, I am talking about. The riddle suggests that this in-game element is a reference to another event that, as another person guessed, is from "our world". I clarified it wasn't an event that actually happened in our world but instead a story, from European folklore.

So what you'd be guessing is not this tale itself but instead the one element in the game that is similar to it. I outlined some basic points suggested in the riddle. I'll add another hint:

It happens early in the game and appears, subtly, as part of the main quest. So everyone who played TW2 has seen it.

It relates to a Polish folk tale about the "Wawel dragon". Except in this case, it was a "kayran" and not a dragon, and it didn't quite work :P
