Just asking for opinions as to the preferred level for Geralt as he finished Chapter 1 and his supply of orens at that time.

Without doing extra work in the echinops cave you probably be around lvl 8 ish. If you spend time in cave anywhere up to lvl 12 but it can be tedious.

Money comes from selling barghest skulls for me (and whatever else you can scrounge and don't need to keep), I hate dice poker so only do the quest games. Had around 4000 orens recently at end of chapter 1.

I wouldn't worry too much about how to finish act 1, as in act 2 there's swamp to wade/raid

Well it depends on how many quests you've done by the end of chapter 1.
