Note to Mods...
I'm sure this subject has been discussed before.  But perhaps not in the way I present it here.
That is why I am making the post.  If it seems to be just repeating old information then please feel free to remove it.
If you have any friendly suggestions for me let me know.  Thanks.

Chapter 1  Outskirts of Vizima
The Salamander's Tail - Trust Gained

Key Words.... "Trigger Point"  "Trust Gained"  advice  tips

Greetings all,
I have found The Witcher enhanced edition to be an excellent game.
I am playing on a PC in the United States.  Game version 1.4.5.1304
(1.5 patch)

The advice I am about to give here is based on my personal
experience of the game.  It is certainly possible that someone else
has found a different way to handle the problem I ran into.
Maybe the game played out differently for them.
So I will understand if not everybody agrees with this post.

I won't give away any secrets, but I'd like to
offer some advice that I think is important.

In chapter 1 the main quest is "The Salamander's Tail"
This breaks down into sub-quests (phases)
one of which is called "Trust Gained".

When you reach the Trust Gained sub-quest or "phase"
you're "journal" will tell you "Talk to the Reverend".

Sure, you can talk to the Reverend...but..DO NOT
talk to him about this particular quest, until you are
fully prepared to face the Salamanders and have no more
business to do with any of the merchants in chapter 1.

Reason:
There are many things you cannot do in chapter 1 after having
that little talk with the Reverend.  Basically it's a bad time for
building your character up any farther within that chapter.
You can still talk with the Reverend about other things.

Tip: Do a game save before telling the Reverend
about trust you have gained.

My Experience with this ....
I was not prepared for the end of the chapter
the first time I went through it.  I needed to be
more powerful.  In order to build my character up
I had to go back in time.  Back to a point before
telling the Reverend how trustworthy I had become.
Some of my hard work had to be re-done.

This is actually not new and many players know it already... because they read it here in the forums or made the same expierence as you  ;)
This quest also connects to "Of Monsters and Men". After Geralt gained trust from Odo, Mikul and Haren Broog, and finished all necessary phases, one dialogue with the reverend about the Beast triggers the final encounter and you have no chance to finish other sidequests, buy stuff to prepare potions etc.
I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…

In Chapter III, you actually get a warning about the end of the Chapter -- Triss tells you to finish up anything you have to do, because you won't be coming back.  It's a pity they couldn't work something like that into the other chapters; I think it's hard on players to have the chapter end suddenly, when they still had things to do.

Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

Absolutely. It's a shame it has to happen so people learn their lesson, complete everything and then progress to the main quest. It does teach structure though  :hmmm:
