so Geralt clearly states he doesn't know who he is. Then some Witchers take him to their castle. Then the castle is attacked. Then some new initiate is saying how he has heard great exploits about Geralt when they first team up....


So I don't understand how this initiate knows who Geralt is when Geralt doesn't know himself who he is. Did the storyline just skip the part where he remembered who he was? ....!!!

The initiate knows because Geralt is a legend. Also the other Witchers were friends of Geralt before he lost his memory, so of course they might have talked about him a few times.

Throughout the game you will meet Geralt friends and discover more from his past. I recommend talking to Zoltan, Dandelion, Shani and Triss. They are the ones who cleary were part of Geralt life and were there when Geralt died. (That was the moment where Geralt lost his memories)

Imagine if you had amnesia and lost your memory, would that mean that your mother no longer knows you, just because you don't know who you are?
