[ACT V] Under a Fiery Sky
02.04.2009 @ 14:42 #1
After I have defeated the mutant, I try to return to Shani in the hospital but keep getting attacked by the Squirrels and the Order, so am unable to enter the hospital. On a few occasions, I manage to fight my way into the hospital but by that time I have lost so much vitality that when the Squirrel attack inside the hospital,I am killed pretty quickly. Is there any way I can avoid being attacked?

you can't really avoid being attacked, that's part of the gameplay in that act ... however, there are some things you can do.
firstly, the "bad guys" (depending on your choice of path) keep coming at you, but they come in waves and between each wave, you have a short interval that you can use to get into the hospital.
secondly, i'd recommend preparing first (i.e. have something you can take once you get into the hospital to restore your vitality as another fight aways
thirdly, if you chose the "neutral" path, the front door of the hospital is locked and you must use the back door.
hope that helps :peace:

Firstly, I have chosen the neutral path, that is why my quest is Under the Fiery sky. Secondly, the door through which I enter is the front door (at least I think so) as it is the one with the notice board in front and is near the big Well. Thirdly, I can't seem to find a place to meditate in Old Vizima in order to prepare some potion or other. Should I rather start at the Dike again do you think?

Have you put any points into Quen? It's a sign that protects you from attacks....

It definately sounds like you need to pull back and get yourself prepped at the dike. What difficulty are you doing this on? Obviously it's going to be a lot more necessary to get the potions in you before you approach the hospital if you're doing this on the hardest difficulty.

I'm on normal difficulty. I have tried all the suggestions above but to no avail. Starting to get extremely frustrated.

inside old vizima you can meditate at Kalkstein's place :peace:
on the dike /before/ going to the castle, there was also a campfire where you might have prepared (but i know you are past that now) ... and for the neutral path, you definitely do NOT enter the hospital via the door next to the notice boad (it's locked)

Well, I am neutral and I have just enterd the door next to the notice board and have successfully defeated both the Squirrel and the Order. I am now busy escorting Shani to the swamp.

i don't want to argue, but just to be sure ... if you are neutral, then you escorted 2 nurses to the hospital ... if it was not 2 nurses, then despite what you may think, you are not in fact on the neutral path.
if you escorted Zoltan and some refugess you are on the Scoia'tael / elves path and
if you escorted Rayla you are on the Order path
cheers :peace:
edit However .. despite 30 runs, it's possible that something /else/ opens that front door, so if you are indeed on the neutral path AND the front door is open, please tell me how you got to that point

I escorted two nurses to the hospital so I am on the neutral path. I did however find the front door to the hospital locked AFTER I returned from escorting Shani to the swamp. Before that, it was definitely open

Sounds right game widow. My last playthrough was neutral, and I'm pretty sure the front door was unlocked after dealing with the "Striga" (mutant), but locked after helping Shani to the swamp.
Don't blame the dynamite if you can't light the fuse!

To add a couple of tips, since I've just completed this same quest:
1. One does not have to fight the squirrels and knights. I've found that they often ignore me and rush at each other. Try not to get embroiled in the affray if you don't want to face endless hordes (I belive they will respawn endlessly).
2. I've also found that if enemies are too close, I can't enter a door or use an exit I normally could. Like looting a container or remains when the medallion is vibrating madly. So I stood by the door, cleared the enemies around me, waited until the coast was clear (before the next wave respawned) and entered. I also got the contracts off the notice board this way.

2)
This is intended and happens everywhere when you are in combat mode, resp. an enemy approaches Geralt. I experienced that a few times in the cemetery swamp of Old Vizima when I finally finally found an entrance of a cave, a drowner turns up and Geralt has to kill it first and then he could enter the cave.

I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…
