I have noticed both in the outskirts, the swamp villages and  Murky Waters there is many tiny locked buildings like dog houses, sheds, fishing shacks.  I am missing something?

I'm playing for the second time and completed all the quests in the outskirts and they never "unlocked".

A few will unlock towards the end, but most are supposed to be locked. Either because their owners are not there (and bothered to lock) or otherwise.

The owner of these buildings and huts, etc. know Geralt very well, they know he enters every building, rummages in their belongings and takes every thing away. So they locked their properties to make sure, this time Geralt won't get access to it  ;D

When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.

Technically it means, that the devs said "enough decorating already!"  ;D ... letting you open those sheds would mean extra areas to load and unless all the sheds where the same shed inside (then people players would of course also complain) that would mean a whole lot more stuff to load.

having built a mod (and thinking of the villages in particular!) i can fully understand why those doors remained locked  :D

God knows what was behind those doors *shudder*
"Dandelion, you'd better watch out", said Geralt, smirking. "I've seen your bride here".
Dandelion paled.
"Which one?"

Ciri's dog? I don't know...

Actually, it would probably be Zoltan's constanty swearing parrot- Fieldmarshall Oak 8)
