I believe we all realize that Windows 7 is a BETA, We all downloaded and burned it, right?  What we don't understand, and are trying to find out,  is why can some people play the game while others can't.  The game installs just fine, it just doesn't see the disk in the drive as the original disk.  Its not a optical drive problem because I have swapped out several different drives with the same result.  Is it a "sata" problem?  What would be nice is if the people who had it running would give us their system configuration, we might be able to figure out the problem or at least narrow it down.  The last time I had this game running was on a Dual core running XP.  I am now on a Quad core with Windows 7 and its a no go.  It is also possible that the Tages protection scheme doesn't like Win 7.  But if that was the case nobody would have it working.  Some people get it to work with a NO DVD patch.  I have tried that but it didn't work for me.  So, back to square one.  I don't have a clue.

Does it work on this beta OS 64bit? I havce installed game without any problems, 1.4 patched, bet when I try to launch it, my comp freezes repeatadly at first logos, first intros eventually - first sentence/screen of a castle was maximum I got. Then PC (Core2, 4 GB RAM, ATI 3870) freezes, only a hard reset helps, no crash/error reports..

I have latest patch (EAX), latest DirectX, latest ATI driver, game is started in WinXP compatible mode, disabled other settings, set administrative rights, all advices from forum, etc... no change, reset after a reset

Any more/new advice?

Thanks

Lubo

right click on SETUP.exe and select Run as Administrator or disable/reduce UAC

I have had my UAC off for a long time. If I have the Witcher Enhanced Edition do I still need to download the version from the website like my launcher is telling me to? Will this fix my problem?

I don't have a file named setup.exe in my witcher program files... also I try to run as admin on the launcher or the witcher-MCE, but it still says the same thing.

I also cannot find the uninstall button.

nope
just the hotfix, see the FAQ

my bad, i thought you could not install the game
did you install it with Admin privileges?
anyway, do read the FAQ and apply the Vista tips ( compat mode, run as admin, 640x480, etc )

One last thing... It is telling me that Tages isn't compatable with my system. What is this and why do I need it? If I need it then how do I fix this?

Yeah your hotfix isn't working. It tells me that the update isn't for my computer when I try to run it. Any other ideas??

I just did a reinstall and it still messes up with that error. This is really annoying!

try to uninstall tages, as Administrator, run once to uninstall http://tagesprotecti...age=minimum.htm
let me resume this: you install as Admin the Enhanced Edition from the 2 DVDs and after that you run the hotfix as Admin, right ?

Hey guys,
I'm having a pretty odd problem (which I'm hoping has to do with the fact I'm using the Windows 7 64-bit beta) where the game tells me to insert the original game CD, as though I didn't have a legitimate copy of the game (which I most certainly do. registered and all). It worked fine when I had XP pro, but my computer was a mess and I decided it was time to format. I hope this is a problem that has a simple solution (obviousy other than re-installing win XP :P).

did you install the game on W7 or just run it from where it was installed ?
try to uninstall any virtual disk software

what game version original + patch or Enhanced DVD?

try to run TAGES again, once to uninstall, and again to reinstall it ( get the 64bit version, run in Compatibility mode Vista or something if it refuses to load )

read the FAQ: http://www.thewitche...p?topic=17503.0 ( try the Vista tips: compat/run as admin/640x480 )
also the new hotfix is here:  http://www.thewitche...p?topic=21009.0

For what it's worth, I seem to have solved my problem. I am not sure if this is because of some Windows 7 update that has come in the past two months, or an update to the Tages driver posted on their site.

I downloaded the one from Tages and ran it twice as administrator (right click the file, click Run as Administrator). The first run will ask you if you want to uninstall, choose yes. The second run will install it again.

Since doing this, I have been able to run the game as normal without using any compatibility mode settings.

Good luck to everyone else with this problem, I hope this helps.

Time to start enjoying this excellent piece of software again.  ;D

I too am running on windows 7 so i can be ready to help peeps out when it will be released....

I have to say that i never had that much of an increase in performance on this system, in fact, i can play the game now. Before, when it was on XP SP3, it was too slow and choppy to be able to do anything. The only thing i had to do to get it running is to change Tages drivers. The new one they have posted on their forum works like a charm.

No more problems... I will still be on the hunt for some tho.

Also one thing that helps is Game Booster 1.0, you can learn about it on the post i have made Here

Here is a direct link to the tages drivers:

32 bits
64bits

Install those AFTER you have installed the game in windows 7 and you should be fine :)
