I always like doing the contracts in this game and currently I just finished it, I had been wondering about this one though. The only Basilisks I ever remember meeting were in act V crypts and they were easy. This made me curious since I had failed to complete Julian's contract and to my surprise it said that Basilisks were on Black Tern island. I was on that island thrice and I don't remember encountering a single basilisk , anyone have an idea where they are? Do they come out at some specific time?

[Act IV] Basilisks on Black Tern Island?

they are most definitely there on Black Tern Island. They are basically at the other end of the island as the wyverns and Dagon's temple.
When you arrive at the island by boat, you are roughly in the middle of the coast, so once on shore, go to your LEFT (west) ... keep going until the path curves around. Then you can skirt a little rocky outcrop and then head north (right at that point).
Just as you round that outcropping is where the basilisks hang out -- typically you'll find 1-4 of them at a time depending on the difficulty level at which you play and chance (i tend to find 3 pretty regularly, but have gotten as many as 7 once! -- that was awesome as they were worth about 1500 xp each at that point)
they do not respawn quite a regularly as other monsters, but they do, so if you find less than the 3 you need for the contract, just keep going back ... i find my medallion very handy for this (i tune it to monsters) as you don't even need to see the basilisks to know whether or not they are there, your medallion goes nuts :)
enjoy! :witchmas:

The basilisks give almost 1500XP each! They are among the highest XP and easiest to kill quickly because you can stun them with Aard and kill in one blow. If the ones on the island are respawning for you I suggest keep meditating and killing them as a quick way to get all your silver and gold talents.

Basilisks are very susceptible to fire (burn them with incineration)
They give indeed a lot of exp points but you can't "farm" them. At least I learned they respawn alltogether 2-3 times -.-

I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…
