The same happened to me, as well, which is why I had to wait till Chapter V to get the notes. Can you even actually get them in Chapter IV, or is there a mistake in the guide?

That's strange, I never found the notes of an elven minstrel in a sarcophage in the field's crypt  :whatthe: Maybe I didn't search accurately enough?  :hmmm:
I found the notes in Act V

I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…

same here ... the notes are not found until act V ... only mentioned. If anyone *has* found them earlier, by all means, send me the details :)

Maybe the EE guide descpription means you have to talk to the elfen craftsman to get more information on the legendary armor... but I don't remember if I got a quest log update when I talked to him  :hmmm:

the elven craftsman does mention how the armor was created by gnomes but perfected by elves and that the elven songmaster "Tyensail" worked on it.

As luck would have it, I am exactly at that point in my current game and the journal update about the elven minstrel's notes does happen in act IV ... but trust me you will not find the actual item until Act V :)

Nah, the guide claims they are in the crypt in the fields, but can also be found on Chapter V. Maybe the developers meant to put it in the crypt, but forgot, or something to that effect?

First: Thanks to all for the replies. As long as I CAN get the notes I'm OK.  :-\

From the Guide:
"One of the componentes is the notes of the elven minstrel, which is in one of the sarcophagi in the Crypt in the Fields.
The other component is a piece of the armor, located in a sarcophagus in the Crypt at Lakeside. You must find the next two components in Act V."

Clues given in-game are:
The notes, and three named pieces of armor. Other than the gauntlet, I can't remember the other two parts. But the one you find in the Crypt at Lakeside isn't the gauntlet.

This is why I was confused. Thanks again.

no one has ever reported finding the notes in any other act but act V ... so please if anyone has in fact found these notes in act IV, let me  know so i can  update the wiki

I'm in act IV right now, so believe me i'll be looking for them now :)

but based on what you've quoted from the guidebook, it seems wrong. Yes the armor component is in the crypt by the lakeside (and there is another identical piece that can be found in Act v) ... but i have scoured that crypt in the fields and never found the notes of the elven mistrel -- not in 30 runs ... and i am insanely thorough :)

The German guide says exactly the same. Looks like as if the guide wasn't check before it was translated in other languages

The game guide which comes with the boxed retail EE version cannot be relied upon for accurate information.  It has often out-dated and simply incorrect quest data.  Not to mention the painfully simple typo errors.  Stick to the witcher wiki.  The tried and proven guide to The Witcher!

Oh dear. I had thought quoting the guide would show why I was confused, not extend the problem. I'm in Act V now and if I DO NOT find the notes here I'll post an update. I promise.

game widow: It seems you are correct and the guide is wrong. Don't let my query waste your time.

petra silie: Funny how translations can be accurate to original mistakes and yet ....

chuckles: Apparently. But I wanted to try out my new ISP and downloaded a big game. Which I've been playing (on and off) for a couple of weeks now. I now have a manual and two guides. A bit too much really, but I learned something about downloading games and the reliability of guides. Proves I'm alive I guess.

well no worries, the notes take a while to find ... without spoiling it for you, you'll need to complete one more rather major quest before you find the notes ... essentially Raven's armor is not really to help you in Act V (at least not the first 3/4 of it!) ... it's more what you are concerned with doing in that act. The epilogue is where you can really use the armor  :peace:

so don't despair, the notes are there ... and if you really, really want to know:

I have the armor from the first crypt, but I can't find a piece in the crypt in the fields. Should there be one there? Thanks.

Yes, but your job in this case is finished in Act. IV  ;) The quest continues in Act V, there you will get more instructions. It depends on your decsion with whom you will side, GL

You can talk to the blacksmith and the elven craftsman at the lakeside about the armor, you will get interesting background info.

How many acts are in this game? I'm in Act V right now and really hope there's a lot more. Also, what's a good strategy to kill multiple Wraiths in the Crypt when getting the Armor for the Armor quest? they always seem to stun me over and over and then I just get beaten to death. thanks in advance for the help.

7 acts total:  Prologue, Acts 1-5, Epilogue.
Multiple wraiths hate specter oil + group style.  Using Aard to avoid getting surrounded helps.  Moving through crypts slowly enough to only spawn them one at a time is the best advice.
